MILWAUKEE -- — Christian Yelich had five of Milwaukee’s 23 hits and drove in five runs, and the Brewers pulled away to a 12-5 victory over the major league-worst Chicago White Sox on Friday night.
The 23 hits are the most in the majors this season.
Brice Turang, William Contreras and Sal Frelick all had three hits for the NL Central-leading Brewers, who have won four of their last five games. Yelich doubled twice and stole a base.
“Getting one hit’s hard every night, let alone to have it not be at somebody five times,” said Yelich, who had at least five hits in a game for the fifth time in his career.
The Brewers tied their season high of 12 runs without hitting a home run.
“Night after night, if you give yourself an opportunity to score, have traffic out there and be dynamic, is really what you want to be,” Yelich added. “Not just be able to score in one way.”
The White Sox have lost a season-high nine straight games and 13 out of 14, falling to 15-43. Michael Soroka dropped to 0-6 when he was charged with three runs in one inning of relief.
“It’s just one of those days," White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. "They found holes, a lot of holes.”
The game featured four lead changes in the first 4 1/2 innings before the Brewers, trailing 5-4, broke it open with a six-run seventh inning.
After an RBI single by Turang tied the game, Contreras gave the Brewers a 6-5 lead with a single off right-hander John Brebbia. Yelich immediately followed with a two-run double.
Jake Bauers added an RBI single off Brebbia and Frelick followed with an RBI double off Jared Shuster.
Milwaukee hit 18 singles.
“We stuck with it, we kept going, we kept putting ourselves in those positions,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “That’s not getting discouraged.”
With Milwaukee leading 1-0, Chicago took a 3-1 lead in the third inning off Milwaukee starter Tobias Myers. Paul DeJong hit his team-leading eighth home run, ending a 1-for-13 streak, and Corey Julks hit a two-run double.
Milwaukee took a 4-3 lead in fourth inning by scoring three runs off Chicago starter Erick Fedde, including two on a single by Yelich.
Fedde, who threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings in his last start against Baltimore, allowed four runs in five innings. Myers allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Enoli Paredes (1-0) earned the win in relief.

Back In MLB, New Met Iglesias Feels 'like A Rookie'
BOSTON -- — Ceddanne Rafaela homered twice for his first multi-homer game and drove in five runs, Tanner Houck had a solid start and the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 7-3 on Friday night.
Houck (5-5) went seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The right-hander was hit in his pitching arm by Zach McKinstry’s comebacker with one out in the fifth inning. Houck stayed with the play and threw out McKinstry at first base.
“He’s one of the best pitchers in the big leagues,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “Every outing he’s giving us a chance to win. I hope people start paying attention to what’s going on. It’s been fun to watch from our end and it feels like every outing it’s like let’s see what’s going to happen tonight in a good way.”
Rafaela fell two shy of his career high in RBI set April 27 against the Chicago Cubs.
“This is a hard game and it’s even harder at a young age,” Houck said about Rafaela, who leads his team and all major league rookies with 33 RBI. “He’s 23 years old in the big leagues. You see the talent and you know it’s there and all you can do is keep pushing him in the right direction and just trust that the talent’s going to pay off. For him to have a game like tonight’s, it’s great. I’m sure it’s a huge confidence boost for him. He’s a good player and I’m excited to see where he can be one day.”
Right-hander Kenta Maeda (2-2) went 4 2/3 innings for Detroit, giving up five runs on a season-high eight hits with two walks and a season-high six strikeouts.
“Getting out of it early was encouraging, but you give them too many shots at a big hit, it’s bound to bite you,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “For him, it was rough because of the damage that was done with the home runs and the extra base hits.”
Boston scored four runs in the fourth inning. Rafael Devers led off with a double and scored on Dominic Smith’s one-out double. After Vaughn Grissom singled, No. 9 hitter Rafaela hit a two-out homer over the Green Monster in left field, scoring Smith and Grissom.
“It’s definitely frustrating to give up so many runs, especially in that inning,” Maeda said through a team interpreter. “The first run, that one was tough, but for the runs to keep scoring after, that’s less than ideal.”
The Red Sox added a run in the next inning on doubles by Connor Wong and Rob Refsnyder, ending Maeda’s outing with left-hander Joey Wentz entering.
After David Hamilton singled with one out in the sixth, Rafaela hit his seventh homer of the season, giving Boston a 7-1 lead.
Detroit opened the scoring when Riley Greene singled with one out in the first inning, stole second base and scored on Gio Urshela’s two-out single.
Detroit’s Colt Keith hit a two-out homer in the eighth off Greg Weissert.
