Justin means — you guessed it — fair, just, or righteous, stemming from the Latin name Justus. Its use dates all the way back to at least the second century, when it was used by a few saints, most notably Christian philosopher Justin Martyr (who is the patron saint of philosophers). It has been in use — at least here and there — since the Middle Ages. So the fact that this name is still very much in use today is pretty incredible. Its popularity skyrocketed during the latter half of the 20th century; in fact, in 1988 it rose as high as #7 on the top 1000 most popular baby names in the U.S., and still enjoys a spot within the top 200. This name has proven to have some major staying power, and we don't see it dropping off any time soon.

Of course, we'd be remiss not to mention two very famous Justins helping to currently bolster the name's popularity: Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber. Other notable Justins include Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau; baseball pitcher Justin Verlander; and actor Justin Theroux.
