Sabrina

Sabrina is a traditionally feminine name with roots in Celtic, English, Latin, and Italian. It's been said to have originally referred to someone from Cyprus or from the Severn river area. It can also mean "from the border" or, most delightfully, "legendary princess."

If you want to ensure your daughter knows she's a princess in your eyes but want to branch out from Sabrina, you can go with Sarah, Sadie, Zara, or Sarai, which all mean "princess." Camilla means "princess warrior," Diana means "moon princess," and Gladys means "royalty." Sabrina fans may also like melodic names such as Serena, Miranda, Zelda, Tabitha, Phoebe, Melody, Rowena, or Felicity.

Perhaps the most iconic Sabrina in history is the star character of the 1954 film, "Sabrina," played by Audrey Hepburn. But, of course, Sabrina also makes other renowned fictional appearances: on the '90s TV series "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and its modern Netflix iteration "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"; in John Milton's poem "Comus," which contains a nymph character named Sabrina; and Sabrina Duncan is also one of Charlie's Angels.

Popularity-wise, Sabrina skyrocketed in 1954 after the release of the Billy Wilder film, leveled off in the '60s, but remained in the top 100 until the 1990s. It was in the top 70 in 1977, and then again in 1996-1998. It's been declining since then, and in 2018 Sabrina was #427 in popularity for girls' names in the U.S.
