Winter is finally getting close to its end and that means it’s time to get out and shop for the most exciting fashion season of the year — spring! Box away those drab and dreary winter clothes and welcome in the new season with these fabulous spring trends.
Stripes
Stripes are sure to be seen everywhere this spring. Whether they be nautically themed or in alternating bold hues, they are bound to bring along a sense of the playfulness and warmth that comes with the freshest of the seasons.
Bold colours
Muted tones, neutral hues and all those blacks are a thing of the past now that spring is approaching. It’s all about getting the flashiest colours you can find. Electric oranges, scarlet reds, royal blues, rich greens and bright pinks are going to be everywhere this season. And it isn’t just shirts and accessories that are going bold. Larger pieces such as blazers, skinny jeans and cropped pant (Gap, $60) are also going to be catching eyes everywhere. That’s right — those black, grey and brown jackets and pants can take a break as we welcome in statement pieces in bold hues.
Sheer fabrics and laces
With the cold weather finally on its way out, we can peel off all those extra layers and get down to fun, playful fabrics. After being bundled up for so many months, the peek-a-boo quality of sheers and laces is a welcome change. Colourful, flowy sheer blouses and country-chic lace dresses will be lining store shelves in no time.
Feather prints
Style trend reports are constantly fluctuating between which print will be in every season. And although we’re sure to see a lot of great tribal and floral prints this spring, the exciting newcomer is feather prints. Over the last year or so we have seen feather accessories galore but now our clothes, too, will be graced with the feather’s delicate and fanciful look. The long structure of the feather will be great on clothes as it can elongate the body and create a wonderfully ethereal grace. Look for feather prints on tops and day dresses (La Chateau, $70) this spring.
Pleats
Now, this is a newer trend that you are definitely going to want to get into right away. Those little old pleats that you haven’t seen since your schoolgirl kilt days are making a comeback — and in far more stylish ways. We’ll be seeing wider, more professional-looking folds to dress up the collars of blouses and the traditional A-line skirts; while the thinner, more delicate-looking pleats will be gracing everything from sleeves to full-length dresses. Pleats are an easy way to add a touch of playfulness to any look.
Stores are already getting their spring stock in so get an early start and begin creating your trendy new look today!
