One of our favourite looks at World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week is the one at Joeffer Caoc. A mix of bronzes, golds and a hit of teal with the hair swept up in a casual bun — simply gorgeous! Here’s how to get the look.
Rocker chick gone housewife
The inspiration for the collection and beauty look at the Joeffer Caoc show was “rocker chick gone housewife,” says Grace Lee, Maybelline New York lead makeup artist. And since there were lots of teal and pops of purple and tweeds in the collection, she opted to incorporate some colour into the makeup look.
The makeup
The key focus of the look is the eyes. She applied Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Edgy Emerald onto the waterline by saturating an eyeliner brush with the product and dragging the brush back and forth to get a strong hit of colour. On the lid, it’s a layered combination of five different bronzes and golds (using Eye Studio Color Pearls Marbleized Eyeshadow in Bronze Blowout and Mocha Mirage), with the deeper bronzes in the inner and outer corners to create contouring. In the middle, gold shadow highlights the area, and the eye makeup goes up to the brow. “Joeffer wanted the makeup to look like the models were in a hurry and had done their makeup themselves, so the makeup is pretty but not perfect,” says Lee. More bronze and gold was added underneath the eye as well to soften the hit of teal liner.
Lashes were then played up with Mega Plush by Volum’ Express mascara on the upper lashes and Great Lash Lots of Lashes on the bottom lashes.
On the cheeks, Lee contoured using a dark Fit Me powder and then added Dream Bouncy Blush in Coffee Cake on the apples of the cheeks. Lips too are neutral, with a nude Color Sensational lipstick, Totally Toffee. A final highlight using Color Tattoo in Bold Gold on the Cupid’s bow and the cheekbone finish the look.
The hair
As with the makeup, Caoc wanted the hair to look as though the models had done it themselves, so Redken’s Jorge Joao used Redken Fabricate 03 to give some texture to the hair, then swept it up into a ponytail and pinned it into a bun. The look is loose and natural, though, keeping it “relatable and believable rather than bridal,” says Joao.
