Our favourite friendship movies

Perfect for a girls’ night in or just to watch on your own, we hold these movies that celebrate some of the most important people in our lives — our friends — close to our hearts.

Some of our favourite movies celebrate some of the most important relationships in our lives: our friendships. Whenever we watch these types of movies, they remind us how important the ones we have in our lives are and make us want to hug them and let them know how much they mean to us (since we do that so rarely!). Want to cry, laugh and reflect on your own friendships? Give a few of our favourite friendship flicks a watch.

Stand by Me

Four boys who come together to try to find a dead body they hear about near their hometown might not sound like something we can all relate to, but it’s the innocence and loyalty of their young friendships that make the movie so endearing.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Often it’s tragedy and difficult circumstances that can bring friendships together and make them even stronger, and one of our favourite movies with this theme is Fried Green Tomatoes. Even if you’ve never been to Georgia, you’ll likely find yourself identifying with the friendship bond of Ninny and Evelyn.

Thelma & Louise

This film is one of the top choices when it comes to friendship movies for good reason. Join the pair of women as they make important decisions about their lives and romantic relationships on a girls’ weekend getaway — all taking place during what feels like a super-charged, fun-filled ride.

Clueless

Cher’s popular, rich and pretty, and although shallow and superficial, she has a good heart. She takes on the project of making over the new girl at school, Tai, which proves to be too successful when Tai’s star begins to rise and surpass Cher’s popularity. Clueless‘s lighthearted take on the high school experience and the friendships we had at that time in our lives make us both miss that time in our lives while reminding us how glad we are those days are past us.

Marley & Me

Get your tissues ready, because you’re going to shed a few tears (and you’ll be smothering any furry friends you have at home with love) when you watch Marley & Me. A couple adopts a dog to help them discover if they’re ready to start a family. As the couple struggles with having a baby and with career decisions, the dog, without them realizing it, becomes an integral part of their family. The movie celebrates the incredible bond we share with family pets.
