Fall’s hottest beauty trends

Coral and neons were hot for the summer, but fall is upon us. Make sure your makeup is on trend for the season.

Beauty looks for autumn

The makeupto wear right now

This past summer we saw a lot of coral (on lips and nails as well as in fashion) and tons of neon. But the much cooler temperatures now are your cue to give your look a refresher, updating it for the fall season. If you’re a fan of brights, fret not: You’ll still have the chance to play with some bold colours. Here are some of the top trends to experiment with and flaunt this autumn.

Deep burgundy lips

It’s time to work your way back to wearing lipstick, because the hottest lip look this season is a deep, rich plum colour, the intensity of which you can only get with lipstick. If you haven’t worn a dark lip colour in a while, work your way up to it by building the intensity of the lipstick and applying a bit more each day. Try Maybelline SuperStay 24 Color in Everlasting Wine. If you feel deep burgundy lips isn’t a look you can pull off, try incorporating the colour into your wardrobe; ox blood-coloured clothing is a major fashion trend this season.

Milky nails

You can still rock the usual darker colours on your nails this season, but one trend from the runway is much paler: milky, white-hued and grey nails look cool and fresh. If that feels too stark for you, try a pastel hue; many of the winter and holiday nail collections include pinks and pale blues.

Graphic eyeliner

Get ready to “sketch.” Eyeliner takes a graphic turn this season, with lines not only extending out in a wing, but also drawn on the lid in unique patterns. Of course, this might be better left for nights out clubbing (if not strictly for the runway), but if you’ve got the confidence to pull it off, by all means, go for it!

Bright eyeshadow in blocks of colour

Liner isn’t the only makeup look that’s more out there this fall. Eyeshadow is bold not only in terms of colour (think teal and bright green, such as NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Rated R), but in terms of application too. It’s applied intensely so it doesn’t fade, but rather creates a distinct block shape to the eye area. Too edgy for you? Experiment with a coloured mascara or eyeliner instead so you still have a pop of colour in the eye area.

Fresh cheeks

Blush takes a youthful spin this fall. Rather than sweeping it up toward your cheekbones, keep the colour more centred on the apples of your cheeks. As for the colour, use a bright, girlie pink colour such as LORAC’s pink shade blush. To get the look right, when applying your blush, think of how you look when you’ve just come in from the cold.
