If your hair has suffered over the long hot summer, then follow these easy haircare treatments to help revive your scalp, boost shine and colour and add volume to dull, damaged and lifeless summer hair.
Revive your scalp
Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp. A dry, flaky scalp can be refreshed with some simple tea-tree oil. Mix just one or two drops into your shampoo once a week and you’ll find those annoying and embarrassing dry flakes may soon disappear. Tea-tree oil is a natural antiseptic, great for clearing away blocked hair follicles on the scalp’s surface. If you’re suffering from an itchy scalp, then simply massage a few drops into your scalp and then rinse your hair as usual.
For those suffering from oily hair, you can try dabbing a cotton ball soaked with witch hazel onto your hairline and along your part. Leave on for several minutes before rinsing your hair in cold water. The cold water helps to promote the natural oils in your hair to balance out, reducing the overproduction of oil that creates oily hair in the first place.
Boost volume
Hair expert to some of the world’s top celebrities, Lorrie Goddard Clark suggests a mixture of egg yolk, honey, olive oil and avocado applied to the hair for about one hour will leave your hair full of volume and bounce. Once the mixture hardens on your hair, simply rinse it out with cold water.

Add shine
Exposure to sun, saltwater and chlorine quickly strips the shine from your hair. To revive your summer-damaged hair and get it looking healthy and shiny again, try treating your hair to some natural oil masks. Use olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil to cover your hair from root to tip, gently massaging the oil through your hair. Leave on for about one hour and then give your hair a quick blast with the hair dryer to help the oils penetrate deep into the hair. Rinse your hair then follow with a mild shampoo and conditioner. Pretty soon you’ll have a head of healthy, shiny-looking hair you’ll be proud to show off.
