3.1 Phillip Lim for Target is coming in September — and we’re finally getting a preview of some of the looks!
The official 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target lookbook is out — and excuse us if we just freak out over here for a minute. Recent Target designer collaborations have been a bit ho-hum — save for all the Missoni craziness a couple of years ago — but we can’t wait to pony up some cash to get our hands on Lim’s designs for the “modern-day woman.”
The pieces are going to be very affordable — with most ranging from $20 to $75, according to the Wall Street Journal — and appropriate for both the office and going out on the town. The modern, sophisticated feel was by design, according to the designer.
“My favorite part of working on this collection was also the hardest part, which was the challenge of making a modern day capsule wardrobe that actually addresses real needs but at the same time emparted [sic] desire,” Lim told Glamour, adding that he couldn’t just “throw glitter” on clothes and call it good.
“It was really like, ok what are the codes, the modern day codes. And that was the big challenge actually, to actually push further, push a huge entity like Target to actually push back [on me] and actually make sophisticated clothes that didn’t require just glitter.”
The collection is separated into three sections — morning, noon and night — and is full of pieces we can envision wearing to work and on a night out. The highlight of the collection, according to Lim, is the trench.
“The trench, it’s amazing,” he told Glamour. “Just because of the fabric itself. It’s a bonded poplin, you know it’s crisp and modern but at the same time, the color combination is great. And the cut is phenomenal. Sharp, slim, classic, and modern.”
The bad news? We still have a little bit of a wait: The line will be out on Sept. 15.
