Can anyone wear red? Absolutely — and here are some of our favorite shades to put at the top of the heap.
NYC New York Color Ultra Moist Lipwear in retro red ($1) — Behold the reddest red I’ve ever worn. I felt just a teensy bit Marilyn as I was wearing it, which is not a bad thing — and the uptown color at the downtown price? We’re in love.
Rockalily Lipstick (£14) is so cool that we had to leave America to discover it. It’s a super hardcore red line that instantly amplifies just how badass only we know you are. Tip: This shade is blue-based, which helps your teeth look whiter. Plus, you get to buy independent. Hippie.
M.A.C’s Ruby Woo lipstick ($15) is bold, and yet a bit on the subtle side — making it classic pinup and safe for the everyday at the same time.
Avon Ultra Rich Color lipstick in Poppy Love ($4) — For anyone who loves a hint of orange in their red, this is gorgeous — and super rich and creamy, as the name suggests.
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick ($19) has a lot to live up to in name alone, but it does. It has a seductive sex appeal of all the retro screen sirens and a beautiful true red for the daring attention-cravers among us.
Besame Classic Color Lipstick ($22) initially caught our eye because of the design. Check out the retro cool of the bullet-shaped, gold-plated tubes and vibrant red velvet pouch for safe storage. But once we tried their array of amazing reds, the love bloomed even more. (Shown in Bésame Red, a great True Red — bright and vibrant.)
If you’re usually a lip gloss kind of gal, this just might be the lipstick you’ll make an exception for. Yves Rocher’s Rouge Glossy Lipstick in Parme Scintillant ($5) is just what I want in a new relationship — bright, bold and sparkly. Plus, behold the subtle berry scent!
