As April kicks off Earth Month, we may be taking stock of the products we use on our hair — many contain toxins and often the packaging gets shipped off to landfills. Go green not just with your products and packaging, but how you care for yourself and your body. It’s eco-friendly in a whole new way.
Use beauty products that come in recycled or recyclable packaging and try to go to salons that recycle their waste as well.
Do your homework. Many products claim to be natural, but to be truly organic, a product would have to be refrigerated.
Find a shampoo that is concentrated and not watered down. This way less product can achieve the same results and you decrease the amount of product you use.
Utilize dry shampoo in between washes to reduce the amount of water being used, such as Eufora’s Touch Up Dry Shampoo Collection which comes in Clear and has UVA/UVB protection and tinted colors to cover up pesky gray hairs and lessen salon coloring treatments.
Don’t use chemical straighteners that can contain formaldehyde and decrease the amount of hot tools you use. If you have curls, find environmentally-friendly products that help you embrace them.
What goes on your hair eventually goes down the drain. Use products that are biodegradable, or even better, completely natural. To highlight your hair the natural way, try a mixture of 1/3 lemon juice, 1/3 vinegar and 1/3 water in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture onto the hair and sit in the sun for a few minutes. Rinse the hair and let it air dry naturally. The highlights should look natural — and even better, they are!
