Top 4 Organic makeup lines

When looking for organic makeup, choose products that use natural ingredients and are free of synthetics, parabens and other toxic chemicals. Cosmetics should be cruelty-free, fair trade and the company should try to reduce packaging and use eco-friendly manufacturing processes.

One thing to keep in mind is that the USDA has no authority over the production and labeling of beauty products that are not made up of agricultural ingredients. So the most important thing to do when looking for organic beauty products is to read the ingredient list. However, for those comprised of agricultural ingredients, if they are certified by the USDA, the products are eligible for the following four organic labeling categories — 100 percent organic, organic (at least 95 percent organic), made with organic ingredients (at least 70 percent organic) and less than 70 percent organic ingredients. Here are four of our favorite organic makeup lines.

Dr. Hauschka Skin Care

Using organic ingredients, botanicals and pure minerals, this German cosmetics company is often the winner of various natural makeup awards and accolades. The company has been “green” since 1967 and is considered one of the top organic cosmetics companies in the world. Dr. Hauschka Skin Care makes a full collection of makeup for eyes, lips and face, as well as skin care and hair care products. Their makeup is mid to high range in price. The Translucent Makeup is $37, Rouge Powder Duo is $30 and Lip Glosses are $20. You can check out their entire line at DrHauschka.com.

Physicians Formula

For drugstore organic makeup, turn to the organic wear line from Physicians Formula. Their tinted moisturizer ($12) is a favorite. It delivers sheer, natural coverage, plus contains SPF 15 to protect your skin. Their organic makeup products contain wonderful natural ingredients like jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, shea butter, organic fruit water and other botanicals.

Lavera

Lavera is another German cosmetics company that produces organic cosmetics, mineral makeup and natural skin care products. Their makeup is not just organic, it’s also vegan. All Lavera natural makeup products are cruelty-free, paraben-free, lead-free and contain certified organic ingredients. The Lavera Liquid Foundation gets rave reviews. Also try their 2-in-1 Compact Foundation ($23), Beautiful Mineral Eyeshadow ($17) and other makeup products.

SukiColor Organic Makeup

You might be familiar with Suki skin care products, but you should try their organic makeup too. The SukiColor Organic Makeup line features biodynamic, fair trade and organic ingredients. Unlike much of mineral makeup that is powder, Suki delivers silky cream cosmetics that you’ll love. A favorite is SukiColor Luscious Lips Berry Cream Trio ($32). This all-in-one trio delivers velvety texture and rich color that can be used on lips and cheeks. The formula contains healthy jojoba oil, chamomile, non-GMO soy and other natural ingredients.
