MTV Movie Awards: Beauty takes the stage

The MTV Movie Awards are known for drama — onstage and off. There was a lot of excitement to report this year, but we were most focused on the bad-ass beauties on the red carpet!

Sleek and sexy

We are obsessed with Julianne Hough‘s perfectly straight and sleek locks. In fact, it’s precisely how we’d like our own hair to look for the remainder of the summer.

Au naturale

The natural look was surprisingly popular on the red carpet, as beautiful Emma Watson went for soft but lovely makeup, and Shailene Woodley appeared to be wearing hardly any at all. “She looks cropped and cute. Simple makeup and a long bob that’s not over styled,” agrees Alberto VO5 spokesperson Chris Lospalluto.

Hat apparent

Are we including a great hat in a beauty roundup? ABSOLUTELY. Janelle Monae‘s look was fabulous — but it was the wide-brimmed hat that pulled it all together and perfectly accentuated her signature cat eyes and beautiful pink lips. “She’s a modern Annie Hall!” says Lospalluto.

Mermaid waves

Victoria Justice had us enthralled — her sexy Venus-like waves were among the most show-stopping styles of the night!

Best of the beauties

“Her classic clean makeup complemented her soft hairstyle. She pulled off soft pink lips, instead of the bold red lipstick that we saw so often this past award season. The pink lips worked well with the black dramatic eyeliner. This combo keeps her looking young and fresh, and she keeps her look age appropriate by keeping hairstyle loose and wavy instead of tight,” says SALON AKS‘s Hair and Makeup Designer Sadah Saltzman.

Another top-notch beauty was Elizabeth Banks: “She looked modern with her topknot and fresh face. Her eyes were smoky and dramatic but her skin is still glowy and fresh, so it didn’t look overdone or over the top with the top knot. The texture of her hair made it look more modern and less like a ballerina, which was popular last year,” says Saltzman.
