A fashion stamp of approval from Kate Middleton doesn’t necessarily equal a big payday for designers, says Roland Mouret.
Think Kate Middleton has the most envied style in the world? She does, but apparently our obsession with her every wardrobe choice doesn’t turn into sales for the designers. Or so says designer Roland Mouret.
Mouret told Fashionista.com that more women want to look like Kim Kardashian than the Duchess of Cambridge.
“You don’t see hundreds of women running around looking like [Kate Middleton],” he said. “To be honest, we’re more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian’s worn.”
Price might have something to do with that. Kardashian loves designer duds from Givenchy and other big names, but she also sells a budget-friendly line at Sears. Young fans might find her gear more accessible than the Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham designs that Middleton frequently wears.
Not that Kate cares, though.
“She’s highly attuned to those details that will provoke a tabloid frenzy and above all, she does not want a tabloid frenzy,” Mouret said. “She doesn’t seem to feel the need to dress sexily to woo the world. She’s dressing for William and herself.”
What about Kate do people want to copy, though? It’s her hair — she won the award “Most Iconic Hair of 2012” in a poll conducted by British hair-care retailer Fabriah.com.
She does have really great hair.
