Is navy the new red carpet black?

When it comes to business attire, there are two shades that are universally accepted for the most formal occasions: black and navy. Maybe it’s time that black made room for the dark blue hue in evening wear as well. If the 2013 awards show season is any indication, we’ll be seeing a lot more stunners in deep blue evening gowns. We’re showing you how to create your own look with this ultra-flattering, sophisticated hue.

The look: Fit and flare mermaid style

Amanda Seyfried stunned on the red carpet at the SAG Awards with a navy Zac Posen gown that was body-con in the best way possible. The mermaid-style ruffled flare and sweetheart neckline further accentuated her gorgeous curves. She finished off the look with a statement-making Lorraine Schwartz pendant on a diamond chain.

The look: Embroidered lace

Ladies love lace for its feminine and intricate detail. Nicole Kidman was working the look with a Vivienne Westwood embroidered lace gown with floral applique. The sparkle and embroidery had a peek-a-boo effect over sheer netting.

Get it for less with this Tadashi sleeveless gown with a bateau neckline. It has a forgiving silhouette and ties at the waist with a sash.
