Day in the life of NYFW
There’s no better place to be twice a year for any fashion-loving girl than New York Fashion Week, which happens every February and September in New York City. The majority of designer shows take place at the famed (and gorgeous!) Lincoln Center with a handful of other shows at various studios and unique venues around the city. I just returned from a whirlwind four days of NYFW where they were showing fall and winter 2013 collections, and am thrilled to report back on what I saw, did, heard and found.
Despite the rain and snowstorm that hit the city last week — and the wild amount of umbrellas I saw flip inside-out due to the severe wind — most of Fashion Week carried on as planned, save for a couple events and shows that were delayed. While packing for NYFW is always a tricky and strategic event, it’s a whole other ball game when trying to dress up in severe weather.
While no day is the same during NYFW, there are a few things that stay pretty consistent, and I wanted to share how a typical day goes down.
My favorite fall trends
For fall 2013, I saw a lot of bright color! Typically fall shows have a lot of the usual autumn colors, such as maroon, olive and navy, but this time I saw a bit of everything — from hot-pink ombre feather skirts at Lela Rose, to bright-red long-sleeved midi dresses at Tadashi Shoji, to bright sparkly green-embellished dresses at Herve Leger.
While I wasn’t able to attend the Kate Spade presentation, the photos looked completely girly, gorgeous and fun — with lots of hot pink, polka dots and cheeky flats (including a pair that look like taxi cabs!) As a fan of anything but basic black, I couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come this fall.
