Ready for Easter
The Easter holiday is upon us, so today I have some more festive holiday nails. Easter always seems to bring out the spring season full of pastels and sunny colors. I’m so excited for some color! When deciding what I could do to be festive, I chose to keep a color scheme rather than a specific Easter design. I used dyed and decorated eggs as my inspiration.
Color for thought
I picked an array of pastel colors for this look. The look is called a gradient in the nail world so it does take lots of color, especially since each nail is different. I used Essie Blanc as a base. The colors I used for the gradient are Lime Crime in Pastelchio, Crema de Limon and Peaches Cream, and Sinful Colors in Sweet Tooth, Cotton Candy, Sugar Rush, Candy Coated and Sweet Nothing.
Get your tools
You will need a few tools for this look. Most important is a triangle makeup sponge. I cut it in half to get more use out of it since my nails are small. You will also need a small brush or a Q-tip for clean up, and a dotting tool. A toothpick or bobby pin will also work if you need to improvise for a dotting tool. Finally, some top coat and, most definitely, nail polish remover or pure acetone.
Get the look
- To get this look, start off by painting your nails white. This will really make the pastels pop!
- Once they are dry to the touch, you can begin with your color. Pick two colors that complement each other for each nail.
- Take your colors, along with the white, and paint stripes of color on the end of the makeup sponge like shown in the photo.
- Use the sponge in a dabbing motion to kind of stamp and blend the color onto the nail. Make sure you move the sponge up and down, as well as side to side to really blend the colors.
- Repeat this step one or two more times until you get the desired brightness. Just make sure each layer is mostly dry to the touch before starting a new layer.
- Apply top coat immediately once you are satisfied with the color gradient. This helps to blend all the colors into each other smoothly. Do this with each nail, changing up your colors, but always leaving the white as your color at the end of the sponge.
- Lastly, I added some fun polka dots! Grab whatever dotting tool you are using and make white polka dots all over each nail. Swipe them with top coat when the dots are dry and you have yourself some cute springtime Easter nails!
