New Year’s Eve is all about the glitz and glam! It’s important to start the year off looking your very best, but where do you start?

The hair

According to Laurie Leopold of 312 Beauty, you start with the hair.

“First and foremost, it is bad luck to start your New Year off on a bad hair day,” she says. “Treat yourself to a blowout or take your time to do your own at home.”

The face

Once your hair is looking great, it’s time to move on to the face. Ashley Robertson of The Teacher Diva likes to shine on this special night.

“This is the perfect time of year to get all dolled up and throw on some sequins. My New Year’s look always consists of a little shimmer, a bold lip and my fave LBD,” she says.

Dina Fierro of eye4style says New Year’s Eve is all about the eyes.

“To spice up a simple silk minidress from DVF, I’m planning to rock out a serious smoky eye in lieu of my standard red lip. After all, New Year’s Eve is on par with Vegas in terms of required ‘beauty escalation,'” she says.

Danielle Smith of Extraordinary Mommy says the whole package counts on this special night.

“There aren’t many nights that allow me the luxury of being truly fancy — from the dress to the shoes to the makeup — but this night does. It has been a while since my husband and I have had a night to ourselves. I want the perfect hair and makeup,” she says.

She’s also found the perfect dress, which she can’t wait to rock!

The nails

The final touch is fabulous nails. Blogger Jennifer Gaonach of 52 Shades of Nail Polish wouldn’t dare set foot into a New Year’s Eve party with naked nails. She tried three shades to find the perfect one for the night, and she fell in love with a fuchsia-and-glitter combo.

“Doesn’t this one just look like a party?” she asked. “Try this retro look and pretend it’s 1989, when the hair was big and the nails were bright.”

Achieving that special look doesn’t mean you have to spend your whole evening in front of the mirror. Blogger Lianne Farbes of The Makeup Girl says she can show you how to get that perfect NYE look in five minutes or less. Check out her latest blog post for the details.

Scaling it down

Audrey McClelland of Mom Generations says she doesn’t party it up on NYE like she used to, now that she’s a mom. Her New Year’s Eve is now spent with family and friends, as well as with her children.

“I want my outfit, I want my makeup, to look good and to stand out — but my makeup and my outfits, they aren’t as dramatic or bold as they used to be,” she says.

Her latest blog post includes a video in which she shows you how to get this stellar — but scaled-down — holiday look.

Staying in

Staying in this year? You still want to look awesome! Blogger Tammy Gibson of A Mom in Red High Heels says it’s been years since she and her husband hit the town for the holiday.

“That doesn’t mean I want to sit around in my jammies either! It is a celebration, after all — an occasion to feel fabulous and special!” she says.
