Friday’s Fashion Obsessions: Holland Roden and Julianne Hough

by

Holland Roden and Julianne Hough‘s beautiful celebrity styles made us do a double take this week! We’re telling you why in this week’s installment of Friday’s Fashion Obsessions.

Holland Roden

There’s been a lot of buzz over Grammys fashion this week, but I’d like to give some attention to a look you might not have noticed on the red carpet. Teen Wolf star Holland Roden selected a purple knee-length dress with cape-like shoulders to attend a Grammys party and I can’t get over how great she looked.

Capes have been sneaking their way back into fashion the past few years (remember Gwyneth Paltrow’s 2012 Oscars dress?) and they can be an intimidating trend to try if you’re a little fashion shy. Holland’s pretty purple sheath dress looks quite normal from the back — in fact, the “sleeves” resemble a butterfly or dolman sleeve — but from the front, they give off a really fashion-forward effect. The curved silhouette makes them appear less harsh and actually makes this look a really approachable one!

The final verdict? Holland stepped into some metallic gold pumps, grabbed a brown box clutch and wore her hair sleek and shiny to complement her luxe look. She might not have been nominated for any awards at this show (she is an actress, after all), but we think this outfit is certainly award worthy!

Julianne Hough

Oh Julianne Hough, you always look so great! The actress, dancer and singer worked the blue carpet at a pre-Grammys event looking fabulous as usual in totally on trend black separates. Let’s break down the outfit!

Baggy pants aren’t every gal’s cup of tea, but they can be truly flattering when worn correctly. Think about it — if you shudder at the thought of skinny jeans, a looser pant might just be your best friend. As long as you cinch them with a belt like Julianne did here, and watch the tailoring (too baggy or too long isn’t what you’re aiming for here), baggy slacks can give you the illusion of a smaller bottom half. Adding a fitted top can also help accentuate your figure, and Julianne did just that with a sheer black tank.

The final verdict? The only thing I’m not digging here is the shoes. The texture is a bit too summery for winter, but if she’d opted for a glossy patent pump, this look would have been major perfection!
