DIY stiletto nails without acrylic

With celebrities like Rihanna, Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé rocking the stiletto nail look, the hot new trend is hard to ignore. The nail design usually requires a pricey trip to the salon to achieve, but you can copy it at home for much less time and money. The key? Artificial nails.

Materials:

  • Artificial nail tips
  • Base coat
  • Nail polish
  • Top coat
  • Nail glue

Tools:

  • Nail file
  • Scissors

Directions:

Step 1: Make those stilettos

Start by using your scissors to cut the shape of your nails. You’ll want to cut the tips with a diagonal cut with a slight curve to create your points.

Step 2: Shaping

Use a nail file to refine the shape of the nail and to file the edges to ensure the artificial nails will fit snugly over your nail bed.

Step 3: Base coat

Once you have your nails shaped, apply a base coat to your artificial nails.

Step 4: Polish

Apply your nail polish in 2 coats, allowing a few minutes in between for the polish to dry. You’ll want to make sure you wrap your polish over the edge of your nails.

Step 5: Top coat

Apply a top coat to your polish to protect it.

Step 6: Apply your artificial nails

Put a drop of nail glue in the middle of your nail. Firmly press on your artificial nail and hold for a few seconds to secure.

Step 7: Finish

Once you have your nails on, you can add any finishing touches like nail jewels or any extra filing or shaping that’s needed.
