Fashion trends by city: What’s hot in fashion around the country

No matter where you live, your city or town has a unique style that is most likely reflected in your wardrobe. Gaining a bit of fashion perspective from other parts of the country may inspire you to try something new or spark a flame of fashion brilliance that takes your wardrobe up a notch. Take a peak inside some of the most unique and stylish boutiques around the country to find out what items are selling like hot cakes. If something sparks your interest, go direct and dress like a local or check out a budget-friendly alternative.

Sonoma, CA

Northern California fashion is ‘all about easy and laid back comfort,’ says Zanity Zody of Rhapsody at Home. ‘Customers want styles that
are not too pricey and will last them for several seasons.’ Lightweight jackets like this green Double Faced Military Jacket by Tulle (left),
$105, are perfect for the cooler weather and are really popular right now. Of course, dresses are closet staples in Sonoma, especially the strapless convertible version by Love Tanjane (second from left), $128, and cotton dresses by Gypsy 5.

Boston, MA

On the other side of the country, ‘Boston women are looking for festive cocktail dresses, special tops, and fun jewelry to celebrate the season,’ according to Martha Hilfinger of dress boutique. ‘They are also thinking ahead and seeking out styles for every day that will keep them warm while looking great.’ Bostonians are
snatching up practical yet stylish boots by Fiorentini+Baker (left), $495, which add a bit of an edge to a dress or can be paired with jeans or
tights for a more casual look. Buyers are also flocking to cozy sweaters by Vanessa Bruno and T Los Angeles
(second from left), $276, as well as dresses by 3.1 Phillip Lim, ADAM by Adam Lippes, and Parker.

St. Louis, MO

In the heartland, women are ‘either looking to update their basics at a reasonable price, or they’re searching for one or two special pieces that are new for the season,’ says Laurie Solet, owner of her namesake boutique. St. Louis women are investing in boots, like these black leather biker boots by Matiko (left), $495, ‘a classic update to an otherwise conservative wardrobe,’ says Solet. Other popular pieces include light knit sweaters with sequined
embellished necklines and Black Halo’s Jackie O dress (second from left), $325, an updated version of a classic silhouette that features an asymmetric
cowl neckline.

Denver, CO

In the Rocky Mountain state, women ‘are excited about evening and cocktail dresses, especially the embellished pieces,’ according to Kim Inghilterra, owner of Denver-area boutiques Ella Bleu. ‘Yummy cable-knit sweaters and capes are flying off the shelves, as are chunky cocktail rings and cuffs with semi-precious stones.’
This ivory Sue Wong scoop neck tank dress (left), $246, reminiscent of Caroline Bissett Kennedy’s stylish wardrobe, features a beautiful embroidery overlay

Dallas, TX

In the South, the key to fashionable comfort in a mild climate is layering. “Rather than a big chunky sweater, Texas women prefer to wear some leggings with a silk tunic, a cashmere cardigan,
some boots and a scarf,” says Ariana Pena of Krimson and Klover in Dallas. “Right now, our fashion scene is fun and classy
with a little bit of a Southern edge.” Dresses are always a hit in Texas, but this season the mini-dress (like this one pictured left by Yumi Kim , $204)
is taking center stage, especially when paired with tights. Statement jewelry like this necklace by Lo Lo Jewels (second from left), $395, is also
popular. “We literally can’t keep it in stock,” says Pena.
