Spring style on a budget

Aaah, the spring season is upon us! And with that, the irresistible urge to refresh our wardrobe with the latest fashions. Luckily, this doesn’t have to mean taking out a second mortgage or forsaking your kid’s college fund; read on for some budget-friendly ways to stock up on spring fashions.

Transition

No matter what part of the country you live in, there are plenty of pieces in a fall wardrobe that can transition right into spring and still look stylish. Light cardigans, layering tops and denim can be worn just about any time of the year. Pairing these basics with more up-to-the-minute accessories and fashions will make you look right on trend, and won’t break your budget.

Keep

Designers love dishing out new trends every season and while fabulous, it can definitely hurt your wallet! This season, keeping our wallets fatter was top-of-mind for designers, as many fall trends are staying strong through spring. If you already picked up anything metallic or floral print, a boyfriend blazer or jumpsuit for seasons past, they’re definite keepers for your spring wardrobe, too.

Buy

Once you’ve taken stock on what you’ve already, then got comes the fun part – shopping! The best way to stock up on a limited budget is to start with your accessories. They’re an instant way to freshen up any look and also an easy way to embrace new trends without trying a head-to-toe look. Some accessories to look out for this season include cute clutches that can be used for both day and night; anything red (a great way to make any outfit pop); and ladylike bags with chain or top handles. Try vintage shops and cheap-chic stores like Forever 21, H&M and Target for the latest disposable accessories at great price points. Some other spring pieces to watch out for are T-shirt dresses, anything with feathers and fun abstract prints. Just like with accessories, look to cheap-chic chains when shopping for trendy pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe as they may not have the staying power (i.e., not worth the investment) of other, more classic looks.

Style

Okay, so you’ve bought a few pieces and figured out what to keep reusing, now how to style into a fashionable transition? Mix, match and have fun with the looks! Try styling a pair of last fall’s denim leggings with a new print top and ladylike bag. Make that blazer from fall work in spring too by pairing it with casual tops and jeans and the latest red accessories. You can also wear it over this season’s newest T-shirt and print dresses.

Mixing just a few key, fresh items into your wardrobe is an easy way to stay on trend, without breaking the bank.
