Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York just ended, and in collection after collection the trends for autumn and winter 2010/11 were neutral in colors, classic yet urban in design, and all around gorgeous, yet infinitely wearable. Highly relatable, the strongest focus for fall and winter was on investment dressing, buying pieces that morph into many outfits, and are infinitely versatile. With the economy still straining to get to the next level, and paychecks not allowing the wiggle room for luxuries as in the past, almost every “Fashie” has had to tighten her stylish belt! Here are a few ideas on how to get the most current runway looks for play, work and evening and still come out thousands of dollars ahead on value!
Heavy Sweaters and “Jeggings”
One of the most dominant runway trends for fall/winter 2010/11 was the use of soft, heavy outerwear, via knitwear, fur or heavier woolens, layered and belted over thinner layers and “jeggings,” a combo jean/legging. Grey, black and white/black combination prints made frequent appearances. Twinkle, by Wenlan, was a fabulous showing of these trends. To get this look for less, try a soft sweater vest in cashmere by Juicy ($249.00) at piperlime.com, and top ($50) and jeggings ($60.00) by Topshop at topshop.com!
