10 Hairstyling shortcuts

All women — whether busy moms or busy executives — need a few hairstyling shortcuts up their sleeves. Here are 10 to get you out the door fast, yet looking chic.

Use 2-in-1 products.

Try a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner. These shampoos have a couple of extra ingredients: silicone (a glossing and conditioning agent) and a suspending agent. The suspending ingredient keeps the silicone from separating from the shampoo. The idea is that, once the shampoo meets water, the suspending agent dissolves and the conditioning ingredient can remain on the hair.

Use a microfiber towel.

Microfiber towels are extremely absorbent and remove more water from your hair than regular towels. These save you time in the morning and make blow drying your hair easier and faster.

Invest in a good hairdryer.

Ionic blow dryers can cut hair drying time in half. An ionic dryer produces ions, which are electrically charged molecules. The ions have a negative charge, while water has a positive charge, so they bind quickly.

Keep dry shampoo or baby powder on hand.

Dry shampoos come in powder and spray forms and are excellent for cleaning hair and adding volume. You also can use a sprinkle of baby powder on your roots, then turn your head upside down and brush well.

Skip the blow dry.

Simply brush your hair out when you wake up and use a flat iron to smooth out your hair. Alternatively, you can use a one-inch-barrel curling iron to create a quick style. Simple divide your hair into four or five even sections on each side of your head. Wrap each section vertically away from your face and release. Once you have done each section, run your fingers through the curls for instant volume and style.
