It’s so much easier to get the kids ready in the morning when they have a routine. Well, the same holds true for you, Mom. Establishing a quick beauty routine will help you feel more pulled together, and will make your mornings run much more smoothly. Check out these morning beauty routines that work.
Do as much as possible the night before
Stress isn’t pretty, and you surely don’t want to start the day with an anxious look on your face. From showering to picking out clothes, the more you have done when you go to bed, the less you have to worry about in the morning. “I always glance at my calendar right after dinner,” says mom-of-3 Megan W. “That way I know exactly what I’m facing when I open my eyes the next morning.”

Hydrate yourself for energy and beauty
Keep a glass of water on your bedside table and drink it before your feet hit the floor in the morning. You’ll feel clear-headed and energetic — and it’s great for your complexion, too. Miranda G., a Zumba instructor, knows she needs water to get her through the day, but doesn’t enjoy drinking it. “I always have yummy powder packets to add to my water bottles,” says Miranda. “Then my ‘daily 8-10’ feels more like a treat than an obligation.”

Schedule some alone time
As much as you want that last 15-minutes of sleep, you may find that getting a jump-start on the rest of the family helps tremendously.
Use the 15 minutes in whatever way you like: to pray or meditate, to check your e-mail, to do your hair and make-up. It’s your time.
Brush your teeth
“I can’t do much about my age spots and wrinkles,” says Alayna C. from Central PA, “but at least I know my white smile makes me look a little younger.” Use whitening toothpaste, mint floss and freshening mouthwash to eliminate nasty morning breath. Keep sugarless gum on hand for later.
Put on your face
Keeping your make-up simple means you’ll have time to do it right every morning.
- Wash your face with a washcloth to remove sleep debris and follow with a tinted moisturizer with SPF to get moisture, color and sun protection in one easy step.
- Apply eyeliner, curl lashes and add lengthening mascara.
- Brush blush powder or bronzer on cheeks, eyelids and throat.
- Add lip color, and you’re done!

Get dressed
You picked out your clothes, shoes and accessories last night, so now all you have to do is get dressed. “I learned the hard way to check for wrinkles and missing buttons the night before,” says Tara L., a 46-year-old single mom. “I hate a morning rush.”

Do your hair
Forget the time-consuming wash-dry-style hair routine. Wash your hair the night before (and it’s okay to skip a day or two in between shampoos) and style it as desired in the morning. Pull out the straightening iron or curling iron, or just use your fingers and styling product to get the look you want.

Add some fragrance
Apply a dab of Vaseline to your pulse points and follow with high-quality fragrance. For a longer-lasting scent, use the same line of fragrance you used for last night’s bath or shower. Spritz a bit onto your hair, and you’ll stink pretty all day!
