Warm-weather beauty trends

With every new season come fresh new beauty trends, and the warm months are an especially great time to experiment with new looks and change up your routine. The beauty buffs at SheKnows took a look at some of the latest get-gorgeous trends and came up with some simple ways to incorporate them into your skin care and makeup routine.

Use a multitasking cleanser.

Smooth, dewy, youthful skin was a fixture on runways this spring (as on the models strutting their stuff for Dolce & Gabanna) but don’t be daunted by the complexion perfection on the catwalk. You can achieve similar results with the right cleanser. Dermalogica’s director of global education, Annet King, recommends switching from a creamy, rich cleanser (which may have been perfect for winter) to one that exfoliates, softens and cleanses all in one. Try Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser ($37) for brighter, smoother skin or Bliss fabulous foaming cleanser ($34), a two-in-one refreshing gel cleanser and exfoliator.

Get glowing.

To achieve a natural, youthful glow for spring and summer, King suggests applying a liquid hydrator under your moisturizer to give thirsty skin a double dose of moisture. Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster ($54) smoothes fine lines and gives skin the much-coveted dewy, moist appearance. To achieve that flawless-but-natural runway look, King suggests mixing a silicone-based primer with your favorite foundation or tinted moisturizer. She recommends Dermalogica Barrier Repair ($38) and Sheer Tint Moisture SPF 15 ($43) to give skin a healthy, luminous glow while improving texture and tone. Also try Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer SPF 20 ($42), which provides light, natural-looking coverage.

Make over your makeup bag.

Less is more in warmer weather: fewer layers of clothing and fewer items clogging up your makeup bag and bathroom counter. Top Hollywood makeup artist Anthony Merante, whose famous clients include the fabulous Lady Gaga, suggests lightening your beauty load with products that do double duty. We love Stila raspberry crush lip and cheek stain ($24), which packs a multitasking punch by delivering the perfect pop of bold color to both cheeks and lips. Merante suggests using eyeliner as a cream shadow or a shimmery powder shadow as a highlighter as another way to do more with fewer beauty products.

Go bold.

Makeup artist Charlotte Day suggests coral as the perfect multipurpose hue for spring and recommends using it for lipstick, blush and eye color. The sunny shade is both summery and flattering, and pairs well with other spring makeup trends such as bold, orange lips. This spring and summer are also all about lime green, yellow, purple and blue eyeshadow colors, as seen on the runway. Day advises that if you’re going to go with a bold lip or eye, keep the rest of your face neutral. Your look-at-me-lips or eyes will stand out better next to a nude color everywhere else.
