In our Beach Week Save/Splurge article, I’m taking on sunscreen. I’ve got two of my favorites for you, one on each side of the column. Check them out and get back to your sun worship!
It’s finally getting warm outside… sort of… and out here in Los Angeles, I’ve already managed to get obnoxious tan lines. I didn’t mean to. I normally wear sunscreen every day. I think of it like underware. For the most part, you don’t leave the house without it. And then there are those days…
Anyway, sunscreen is the most important thing you can put on your face if you don’t want to end up looking like a raisin. Today I have two fantastic ones for you. One on the Save side and one on the Splurge.

Now, there are a ton of different sunscreens out there and these aren’t the only two that I love, but they are two of my favorites. Most women have a few complaints about this particular product. They’re sticky, they’re heavy and they make you break out. Well, I’ve found two that block the rays without the evil.
Splurge
On the Splurge side, we have ReVive Filtre De Soleil Visage SPF 45. It’s rare to find a sunscreen with an SPF over 15 that doesn’t clog your pores. This cream uses Ensulizone, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone and Zinc Oxide to block UVA and UVB rays. It’s also got Dimethicone so makeup glides over it. This one is better for slightly drier, mature skin. It may be a bit heavy for your teenage daughter. I’m pretty breakout prone, and I wore it every day for three weeks, including a week in extra-humid South America and it didn’t clog my pores at all. It’s definitely on the more pricy side, but a very little bit goes a very long way.
ReVive Filtre De Soleil Visage SPF 45 retails for $95 at reviveskincare.com.
Save
On the Save side, I’m loving Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 45. (There is a wide choice of SPF levels in this line, including 100+.) This super light liquid uses Parsol 1789 to keep you burn-free. It’s fantastic for oily skin types, though it may be a touch dry for older skin. It also tends to stay on, even after a brutal hike in the park. Trust me. It was very sunny when I went and I didn’t end up looking like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It also has vitamins A, C and E. It’s quite a bit less expensive than ReVive so it fits any budget.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 45 retails for $9 at ulta.com.
