The City’s Whitney Port talks summer tribal trend

Former star of MTV’s The City and up-and-coming fashion designer Whitney Port tells SheKnows what styles she’s into this summer and all about her fall fashion line.

Fashionista Whitney Port was working the streets this afternoon as the Snapple ambassador for National Iced Tea Day. And when Whit took a break from serving the masses, we got to quiz her on what city styles are hot this summer.

SheKnows: Whitney, what are your must-haves for a perfect summer wardrobe?

Whitney Port: Comfort is key for me in the summer. During the day I like to wear jean shorts and a t-shirt or a casual dress. At night I’ll dress it up by adding wedges. My summer style is very casual, I’m not one of those high maintenance people.

SheKnows: Jumpers and maxis were very popular last season, will they be sticking around this year?

Whitney Port: Jumpers are definitely still in, and maxis even more! I just love a good long dress. They’re so comfortable, breezy and effortlessly chic. Long skirts are all the rage right now as well.

SheKnows: Let’s talk about your Whitney Eve fall 2011 fashion line. What was the inspiration behind it?

Whitney Port: I went to Nigeria on a charity trip and I was really inspired by the prints, colors and everything the women were wearing. I wanted to do a modern feminine take on it.

SheKnows: And with all the skin you’ll be showing in these hot outfits, how are you staying in shape this summer?

Whitney Port: I try to eat healthy… lots of fruits and veggies. I also try to stay active. I travel a lot so I do little workouts in my hotel room like lunges and pushups. When I’m home I go to the gym and do cardio and weight training… just keep the blood flowing!

It appears the on-the-go workouts will have to continue all summer long. Whitney told us she plans on traveling to Dublin, Miami, and home to Missouri to see her family.
