3 Fun fall beauty trends to try

Now that summer is coming to a close, we’re itching to switch up our beauty routine and start testing out some of fall’s best beauty trends. There’s nothing more fun than starting off a new season with a brand new color palette, and we’ve got the goods on three fabulous fall makeup trends that will have you making a beeline for the nearest beauty counter. Check them out below.

Trend report

We turned to award winning celebrity makeup artist Rochelle Rae to get her take on the latest beauty tips and trends for fall and winter. According to Rae, the top three fall-winter beauty trends to watch this year are: earth-girl-meets-golden-shimmer, ice princess and bold fruit-colored lips. She shares her tips with SheKnows on how best to achieve these hot new looks for fall.

Earth tones & gold

The combination of gold, earth tones and a touch of shimmer is shaping up to be hot this fall. Picture warm cocoa shades highlighted with a subtle golden shimmer. To achieve this look, Rae suggests going for a gold-laden brow, cheek and collar bone. Apply gold to the inside corner of the eye and then go for a super glossy gold-flecked lip.

“Don’t be afraid to add a little shimmer to your everyday look,” Rae says. When applying, rather than swishing a golden color all over your face, the trick is to apply light layers onto areas that would naturally be highlighted by the sun, creating a more natural, dewy gold look, she explains.

Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Gold ($19), pretty gold shimmer for eyes, cheeks and lips.

Ice princess

Cooling temperatures provide a perfect setting for the ice princess look – a palette for your peepers heavy on rich, dark blues. Have fun with cool, icy blue shades for a more vibrant take on the smoky eye, and opt for shadow in shades like sapphire, teal and cerulean blues. Finish the look with indigo liner and dramatic black lashes paired with a soft, frosty pink shade on cheeks and lips. Try MAC eyeshadow in Freshwater ($15), a rich shade of cool blue.

Blending is the key to creating a beautiful smoky eye – always make sure you have a smooth transition from color to color, with no visible edges.

Fruit-stained lips

Put the focus on your pout this fall with bold, fruit-inspired colors. Stains, lipsticks and glosses in cranberry, pomegranate and tangerine are perfect for this dramatic look. Since it’s all about the lips, the rest of the face should appear flawlessly nude. Rather than heavy foundation, Rae suggests using tinted moisturizer as a more natural way to even skin tone. To achieve the perfect pout, she also recommends the following – apply lip liner to your entire lip, followed by lipstick. Then lightly blot, reapply the lipstick to the center of your lips, and to prevent any bleeding edges, apply powder to the outside edge of the lip line with a small brush.

LORAC Cream Lipstick in Berry($19), a rich juicy hue.
