Ole Henriksen and his famed Ole Henriksen Spa are no strangers to the hottest A-listers like Charlize Theron, Katy Perry, Christina Hendricks and Amy Adams, just to name a few. Henriksen was happy to share some of his best celebrity skin care tips and tricks with SheKnows just in time for a new season. Goodbye summer, hello fabulous face.
Instant face lift
At least three to four nights weekly, after cleansing and prior to application of night treatment products, Henriksen recommends giving yourself a low-cost, mini face lift. Here’s how:
- Fill four to six brackets in an ice cube tray with a face mist or toner packed with good-for-skin ingredients, like Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner ($35) or Henriksen’s own African red tea face mist ($28).
- Let freeze, and then wrap one cube in a thin white cotton cloth, which will protect your hands against the cold surface.
- Glide your lightly wrapped (and power-packed) ice cube across your entire face in slow motion, releasing the ingredients in the toner or face mist as it melts into your skin.
“I call it my natural Botox treatment and done regularly, with your other products and a healthy lifestyle, this instant freeze frame treatment truly becomes a great anti-aging treatment,” Henriksen says. This is something he tells stars to do prior to make-up application on the day of a big red carpet event for a smooth flawless complexion.
All about eyes
Eyes may be the window to the soul, but they’re also the window into your sleepless night, stressful week or recent all-nighter. You can perk up your peepers by using an eye gel nightly, but store it in the fridge for added firming and fluid draining benefits, Henriksen explains – a tip he says he got from stunner Charlize Theron. Gels are cooling by nature, but the extra cooling power from being kept in the fridge feels fantastic and definitely de-puffs.
Prior to a big event and on a regular basis (once or twice a week), give yourself a special eye treatment similar to what Henriksen does at his spa. Grate cucumbers and place them along a piece of gauze. Wrap the gauze around the cucumbers until you get you get a roll long enough to span both eyes. Press firmly against the eyes, allowing for the firming and fluid draining enzymes to interact with the entire eye region. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. “The results are amazing; just ask fans of my spa like Renee Zellweger, Hugh Jackman, Lisa Kudrow and Mark Wahlberg.” We love knowing celebrity beauty secrets.
Weather-proof your skin
Cold weather can wreak havoc on your skin. The trick to making sure it looks luminous despite the harsh winds and dry air is to seal enough moisture into your skin, Henriksen explains. That way you’ll prevent dry and chapped skin which happens so easily when temperatures drop. “Just like you layer your clothes when it’s cold, a little layering on your skin becomes necessary,” he says. Following your skin tonic or toner, apply a thin layer of complexion oil (ideally containing pure, natural oils, vitamins and essential oil extracts). Rumor has it that Kate Moss loves his Black Currant Complexion Oil ($32) for this purpose. You can also try Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil ($48) to smooth and soften skin.
Massage a thin layer of the complexion oil into damp skin, and follow with your moisturizer as the second layer of environmental protection. “This way your skin will feel cushioned and comforted all day long, while remaining properly hydrated.”
