Fashionistas love the fall season. The first cool snap lends itself to lush layers and extra pieces like luxurious scarves, elegant gloves and fab hats. Fall 2011 features a treasure trove of looks from vintage-inspired hats to bold, modern-styled jewels. Here are five of our favorites this season.
Vintage hatsHats are back in a big way in 2011. It seems HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and the modern-day silent film that got rave reviews at this year’s Cannes Festival have spurred a renewed interest in 1920s glam. We see it in ornate bib necklaces and in modernized clouche hats like this couture leopard fleece cloche with black silk organza and sparkle button center by Maggie Mae Designs. Also look for structured styles reminiscent of the 1940s and floppy, feather-detailed styles of the 1970s. |
Animal print or feathered scarvesSumptuous scarves take a cue from the bold patterns, vibrant colors and intricate textures of the wild. Leopard, zebra and giraffe print scarves will be big sellers, as well as scarves with feather detailing. Rich hued peacock prints are popular, as are scarves with authentic feather features. One of our favorites is this tubular satin triangle scarf trimmed with real ostrich feathers by Echo. |
Glam glovesThis year’s color block craze goes all the way to your fingertips, as evidenced by this sumptuous set by Urstadt Swan. Look for long, short and fingerless gloves in bright-hued cashmere, leather and suede. Shearing–lined gloves are a favorite this season. And many fashion gloves will surprise with decorative gemstone or feather-like details, buckles and even zipper and puff-sleeve designs. |
Gemstone jewelryDramatic jewelry with gemstones in vivid colors lends sparkle to your fall wardrobe. We’re lusting for the luxe Elyria Jewels necklace featuring a natural color baroque freshwater pearl set in 18 karat yellow gold and a 0.85 carat kite-shaped emerald accented with a circle of cognac diamonds. Pieces like this can be pricy but you won’t have to break the bank. Less pricey pieces with more affordable or even imitation gemstones are everywhere this season. |
Couture with a causeGoing glam while giving back is definitely hot this season. Designers are supporting humane causes from the sale of their designs. Our favorite is Kevia’s polished black, two-inch tall, carved horn cuff with diamond-shaped pattern and a faceted cubic zirconium or diamond setting. Look for other fashion and jewelry designers who support various causes with sales of their designs. |
