Pretty Little Things: Darling dresses for fall

Welcome to Pretty Little Things, where each week we bring you our picks for the prettiest little things online. If we love it, you’ll be the first to know! This week we’re focusing our fashion attention on dresses that pair perfectly with tights for a feminine fall style statement.

Say yes to the dress

Since I live in dresses all summer – literally from May through August – it’s really hard for me to give them up come fall. So I’ve decided I’m not going to. In fact, I may continue my all-dress streak from now until Thanksgiving. In honor of my new style pledge that puts pants on the backburner, I’ve gathered up some gorgeous options for saying yes to the dress this season.

Vest dress

Menswear-inspired pieces took the fall runways by storm, but I have yet to add any to my wardrobe – until now. I was instantly intrigued by this double breasted wool-cashmere dress, designed to look like part of a dapper three-piece suit (Anthropologie, $248). This dress, paired with thick tights in an eye-catching hue (plum perhaps) and chunky platforms will look on-trend and polished.

Pleated dress

Bold colors are another fall style staple which is why I was drawn to this gorgeous chiffon color block dress in rich shades of teal and jade (Top Shop, $110). I love the pleated skirt, open back and decidedly 1970s feel of this flirty and feminine dress, perfect for everything from a cocktail party to dinner out with your boyfriend’s family.

Shirt dress

Shirt dresses are great because they’re comfortable and easy to wear no matter the occasion or season. I particularly like this pretty bird-print style with long sleeves and dropped waist (Asos.com, $82). The red birds against a cream background give this dress added interest and depth, making it more than just a casual option.

Sweater dress

There are few things as comfortable as the sweater dress, and I have been known to own more than my fair share in various colors. I’m currently coveting this simple yet stylish dolman-sleeve sweater dress (J. Crew, $168) made from soft merino wool. Leave as-is for casual comfort or add a belt and heels for a more chic and polished look.

Turtleneck shift dress

I don’t normally wear turtleneck sweaters (OK, I never wear them), but when I spied this lovely Diane von Furstenberg turtleneck shift dress (Bergdorf Goodman, $325), I knew I was in love. I love the fitted silhouette, mod design and rich colors that make up this playful mini dress, perfect for pairing with over-the-knee boots and a cropped denim jacket.
