Whether you’re looking for something edgy and sultry or sweet and fresh, your perfect shade of lip color is on-trend for fall.
Red wine
Red lipstick is hot — not bright, fire engine red, but rather, deep shades of wine: burgundy, merlot, bordeaux. When wearing dark shades of lipstick, keep the rest of your makeup simple and neutral. Playing up both your eyes and your lips will make you look overdone.
- Our pick:Givenchy Rouge Interdit Satin Lipstick in Lune Carmin ($29)
Berry gloss
If you want some color but think red lipstick is too much for you, try a touch of berry lip gloss. The color should be sheer and fresh with just the right amount of shine. The perfect lip gloss should provide moisture and shine, but never be sticky or goopy. And remember, a little gloss goes a long way. Just dab a bit in the center of your bottom lip, and then smack your lips together to distribute the color and shine.
- Our pick:Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss in Raspberry ($14)
Poppy orange
Orange lipstick has been hot since spring, and this color sticks around for fall as well. At Mercedes Benz Fall Fashion 2011 Week in New York, we saw orange lipstick varying from caramel-orange to bright tangerine. We love the red-orange poppy color spotted at the Jil Sander show (seen at right).
- Our pick:NARS Lipstick in Heat Wave ($24)
Beige-y nude
The nude makeup trend didn’t fade away with the summer sun. We are seeing plenty of nude lips, partnered with spider lashes and a touch of shimmer on the lids. Almost every cosmetics company offers a nude lipstick these days. Experiment with several different shades and brands to find best huewith the right undertones for you.
- Our pick: Exude Creme Lipstick in Nude ($29)
Bright pink
Don’t put away your bright summer shades quite yet: Fuchsia and hot pink can work for fall, whether you are wearing a mustard turtleneck and jeans or your favorite LBD. Pink lipstick is young, fun and energetic. If it’s too overpowering for the office, just wear it on the weekends.
- Our pick:M·A·C Lipstick in Show Orchid ($14.50)
Dark Plum
Vampy, sexy and dramatic, ultra-dark plum lipstick is sizzling hot for fall. Though you might not wear this deep color to the office, you’ll definitely want it for a special night out.
- Our pick:Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick in Amethyst ($30)
