If there’s any show on TV that represents the epitome of fashion, it’s Gossip Girl. The Upper East Siders always seem to have the most enviable hair, makeup and clothes, and we’re lusting after their style. We figured you were too, so we got the scoop on how to recreate the starlets’ styles. Check it out, fashionistas!
Spotted on the Upper East Side: Oribe Hair Care
Gossip Girl hairstylists Lizzie Reilly and Jennifer Johnson transform the show’s stars into Upper East Side trendsetters each day with the help of Oribe Hair Care products. We asked the two hair geniuses how to recreate the stars’ looks at home, and have all the juicy gossip for you below!
Blake Lively/Serena van der Woodsen
Serena van der Woodsen has always been the wild child of the Upper East Side bunch, and her style has an edge that reflects her carefree attitude. Famous for her effortlessly beautiful waves, Serena is the envy of all her peers, just as Lively is in real life.
“Serena is perfect without even trying,” Johnson says. “She’s simple yet glamorous.” To create her beachy texture — perfect for her new Los Angeles lifestyle — Johnson preps hair with Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray and rough dries it with her hands or with a diffuser. She then applies Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray to the roots for volume and lift and pulls hair into a bun before sending Lively off to makeup.
After Lively returns to the styling chair, Johnson lets out the bun and uses a curling iron to add extra wave where needed. She finishes the look by pulling the hair back into a messy ponytail and teasing the back a bit. “This style is really simple for anyone with long hair,” Johnson says. “Women with shorter hair can achieve the same effect using several small buns to create wave.”
Leighton Meester/Blair Waldorf
Blair Waldorf has always seen herself as an Upper East Side princess, and now that she’s about to become an actual princess, her hair needs to look the part. This season, the fashionista’s look is changing every so slightly.
“Blair is always more polished,” says Reilly. “She puts more effort into her appearance. This season, however, Blair is entering into womanhood and loosening up a bit, and that’s reflected in the more natural curls we’re giving her.”
To achiever Blair’s soft sophistication, Reilly sprays sections of hair with Oribe’s Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray to protect hair and add shine, then uses a double-barrel curling iron to create the curls. She then gives Meister’s roots a lift with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. “Leighton hates teasing, so Dry gives us the volume we need without having to put her through that,” Reilly explains.
Elizabeth Hurley/Diana Payne
There’s a new face in town — Elizabeth Hurley‘s Diana Payne, a self-made media mogul with a taste for younger men — and her style reflects her businesswoman persona. “Let’s be honest, Elizabeth could show up in old socks and still be gorgeous,” Reilly says. “For this character, a done-up businesswoman, we’ve given her loose waves that are professional but sexy.”
Reilly preps Hurley’s locks with Oribe Foundation Mist followed by Royal Blowout to add softness and shine and gives her a straight blow-out. She then curls hair back with a ½-inch iron after spraying each section with Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray.
Reilly adds volume on the sides and wherever else necessary with Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. “Elizabeth has worked with Oribe in the past and just loves him, so she was thrilled to be using the products,” Reilly says.
Steal the look: Gossip Girl fashion
Ever watched an episode of Gossip Girl and wonder where exactly the stars got those fabulous clothes? Yep, we all have. Well, we got the scoop on what a few of the fashionistas were wearing in recent episodes. Check them out below!
Blake Lively and Elizabeth Hurley
Now that she’s a cool California chick, Serena van der Woodsen’s wardrobe is more beach girl chic than ever. To create this fun, flowy casual look, Lively paired a Shipley & Halmos top and Porter Grey skirt with Prada shoes.
Diana Payne means business, and Hurley’s wardrobe reflects that with this chic Alexander McQueen dress and AnaLeena bag.
Blake Lively and Kaylee Defer
When she’s out and about with her mysterious cousin, Charlie, Serena accessorizes her ensemble, making it look like a completely different outfit. A vibrant Mulberry bag and Top Shop jacket add color to her neutral look, and she adds a bit of bling with Oscar de le Renta earrings and rings, and a MCL ring.
Mystery woman Charlie looks like she’s ready to go incognito with her Rory Becca blouse and Rag & Bone jeans. She accessorizes the look with bracelets from Stephan Dweck and Sisco Family Jewels, necklaces from Vanessa Mooney and Meira T, and a vibrant AQS hat.
