6 Accessory trends we can’t get enough of

We’ve all heard that diamonds are a girl’s best friend (and we don’t disagree), but we’d like to extend that statement to include all types of accessories – diamond-encrusted and otherwise. This fall is shaping up to be a fashion-forward one where accessories are concerned, and the style sleuths at SheKnows have rounded up some of the trends that have us most excited about accessorizing our look this season.

Glamorous glitter

What’s better than bling? Not much, we say, and this fall we’ll be sporting a hint of sparkle. If you feel like going glam this season, now is your chance to do it because glitter is in and appearing on everything from shoes to bags and every accessory in between. We love this gorgeous Anya Hindmarch blue glitter clutch (my-wardobe.com, $395), an ultra-stylish, statement-making bag for an evening of cocktails, glitz and glam.

To avoid looking like a disco ball on New Years Eve, stick to one sparkly, show-stopping piece to round out your look, rather than head-to-toe sparkle.

Masculine-inspired pieces

It’s no coincidence that the trend towards more masculine looks includes accessories. From boxy satchels to sturdy stylish footwear, mannish extras are poised to invade drawers and closets this season. We’re particularly enamored with more masculine jewelry, like this striking Marc by Marc Jacobs watch with a decidedly boyish feel, as if you borrowed it from your boyfriend (Bloomingdales, $250).

Petite purses

Gone are the days of toting around bags big enough to hold the entire contents of your medicine cabinet and makeup bag combined. This fall is all about going smaller, so petite purses will be de rigueur as the temperature drops. From handheld handbags to cute clutches, these mini bags are sure to make a big statement this fall. Carry just the essentials (e.g. your lip gloss and phone) in this mini plaid Tory Burch bag (toryburch.com, $325). The small stature is perfectly balanced by the bold print.

Mash-up of color and texture

A single color, texture or pattern is so one-dimensional. Keep things interesting by mixing them up. What you get for fall is a series of eye-catching accessories with depth and a lot of personality. Brocade with leather, plaid and pinstripe, lace mixed with animal print – the combinations are endless and fun to wear. You’ll be sure to steal the show and garner more than a few admiring glances in these cap-toe ankle boots (Zara, $129). These bold booties feature a black body, snake-print toe and rich red on top.

Statement gloves

Say goodbye to basic black – gloves have moved into the style spotlight with eye-catching patterns, styles, colors and detailing. Usually content to play second fiddle to hats, bags and shoes, gloves are vying to get noticed. And why not? Your hands are on display, so they might as well look great. We could not resist these look-at-me leather gloves in a bold shade of turquoise (Tiffany & Co., $275), featuring palladium-plated studs.

Get-noticed neckwear

Put aside your demure necklaces in favor of something much more statement-making. Large and in-charge necklaces are this season’s must-have accessory. Chunky beads, bold colors and unique shapes and designs have become the new style staple. Show off your colorful (and trendy side) with this gold-plated statement necklace (Amrita Singh, $250) featuring bold resin stones in a variety of hues, including orange (our pick), green, black, turquoise and coral.
