Welcome to Pretty Little Things, where each week we bring you our picks for the prettiest little things online. If we love it, you’ll be the first to know! This week, we’re bringing you our latest makeup must-haves for fall, from lip gloss to cheek stain.
More than makeup
It should come as no surprise that I love makeup. I love writing about it, I love shopping for it and I love wearing it. The ability of makeup to transform not only your look, but your mood as well has always fascinated me. Wake up feeling blah, just add some bright lipstick or a fun-colored eyeshadow and all of a sudden you feel like a completely different person. With that in mind, I wanted to share some of my latest makeup finds that make me feel great.
Get glowingI’m always looking for ways to brighten up my complexion and I think we all covet that lit-from-within glow that celebrities seem to have no matter what kind of character they’re playing on screen. That’s what drew me to Too Faced Absolutely Invisible Candlelight ($27), an ultra-light powder that gives skin a soft glow. The vitamin-packed powder blurs imperfections and brightens your complexion when worn alone or over foundation. |
Say yes to stainThe easiest and most fool-proof way to add natural-looking color to cheeks is with cheek stain – at least it is for me. My go-to pick has always been Tarte Cheek Stain ($30) in Blissful (a sheer, peachy pink) and True Love (a sheer watermelon). I love how smooth they go on and the fact that coverage is buildable depending on the look I’m going for. |
Go for the glossLip gloss is one of my favorite makeup items to buy. Case in point: I have a tube in every purse and multiple backups in my makeup bag. I’ve always been addicted, and I don’t know why other than the fact that I think glosses are fun to apply and impart a subtle but kissable sheen, like Korres Lip Butter ($12). Each pot of buttery balm offers a touch of color and shine while smoothing and conditioning lips – it’s win-win! |
Pretty polishWhile it may not be something you put on your pout or swipe on your eyes, I still count polish as a makeup must. Just try not to smile as you look down at a newly-manicured hand featuring one of fall’s hot hues. I am currently in love with Nars Nail Polish ($17) in Orgasm (a peachy pink with gold sheen) and Versailles (a champagne gold). |
Hint of tintAlthough I do wear foundation, my preferred method of evening skin tone is with tinted moisturizer. It’s easy to apply (just swipe and go) and it creates a natural-looking finish I love. Lately, I have been opting for Bobbi Brown SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer ($40) because it goes on smooth, provides minimal but effective coverage and contains skin-conditioning ingredients like jojoba oil. |
