Fall skin care tips for moms

The fall season brings so many changes for moms, and as school starts and routines change, your skin care needs to change as well! Here are some easy skin care tips to help moms keep their skin glowing as the weather cools, leaves change color and the days become shorter.

Exfoliate wisely

At the end of summer, you may have opted for a more aggressive exfoliating treatment to refresh your skin, whether it was microdermabrasion or an acid peel. Now that the fall season is in full force, continue to exfoliate every night (or even every other night if you have sensitive skin) with a milder treatment, such as a retinol serum or glycolic cream. The key is not to over exfoliate, since skin can become irritated in the cooler weather. Before applying your treatment serum or cream, cleanse skin with a spinning gadget (try Olay Pro X Advanced Cleansing System or Clarisonic Sonic Cleaning System) so that the skin and pores are truly clean, allowing your product to be completely effective (a must for busy moms).

Energize your skin

All moms need extra energy! To boost tired, sallow or dull skin, try an oxygen treatment, such as Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask or AmorePacific Hydration Mist. For instant refreshment, carry a can of Evian Facial Spray in your purse and perk up as needed!

Wear a mask (not just for Halloween!)

Fall is a great time for moms to incorporate a hydrating mask into their skin care routines. Cloth masks are the best, but you actually need to lay down for them to work well (anywhere from 20-40 minutes), which doesn’t make them the best choice for on-the-go moms! Instead, make your own hydrating mask by combining equal parts of honey, milk and yogurt, apply and leave on for five to 10 minutes. My other favorite trick is a daily facial oil mask in the shower (perfect for the mom on the go): Apply a layer of olive oil, coconut oil or emu oil to your face right before you get into the shower. The heat of the shower will help it penetrate your skin and when you get out of the shower, you will have a soft, hydrated face.

Remember to take your vitamin C

A vitamin C serum or cream is a must for all women, especially moms. This antioxidant truly helps the skin to glow by helping the synthesis of collagen in your skin and by reducing skin damage caused by free radicals (especially after the summer and being in the sun). One to try is Murad’s Essential-C Daily Renewal Complex, which has the texture of a primer to smooth skin while providing the glow of vitamin C!
