It’s a conversation I have constantly with my friends — we absolutely love our babies and children, but we feel like the no sleep, stress and on-the-go life is aging us overnight! Often times, the job of motherhood causes dry and dehydrated skin, which leads to dull, tired skin and wrinkles! To make matters a little tougher, moms have little time to devote to skin care and anti-aging — but it can be done! Here are some easy anti-aging and skin care tips that busy moms can incorporate into their everyday routines.
Eat anti-aging foodYou might be on the go, but you still need to eat! Incorporate some of the top beauty foods into your diet to reap the benefits from the inside out. Eat more foods such as salmon (high in omega-3 fatty acids and easy to bake up for dinner) and spinach (full of antioxidants and lutein, which helps keep eyes healthy and bright). Nuts such as almonds (full of vitamin E) and walnuts (more omega-3 fatty acids) and dark chocolate (contains antioxidants) all have amazing anti-aging properties. For the mom on-the-go, create snack packs of almonds, walnuts and dark chocolate chips to carry with you at all times. That’s what we call healthy, yummy beauty food! |
Hydrate your skinYou know the drill… drink at least eight to 10 glasses of water per day. For convenience, you can keep a cooler in your car so that you always have fresh, cold water. Not only is it good for you, but it also keeps your energy up! |
Instant bright smileWhite, bright teeth exude youth and vitality and nothing is better for anti-aging than a megawatt smile. Of course moms often don’t have the time to whiten their teeth (yes, you can do the overnight trays, but honestly, sometimes you just want to drop into your bed!) For the times you can’t do a professional or involved treatment, try instant whitening, like Luster NOW! Instant Whitening Toothpaste (Walgreens, $10). |
Double exfoliateExfoliating your skin in a must for anti-aging. Not only does it remove the top layer of dull, dead skin, but it also stimulates collagen, the building blocks of our skin. Busy moms need to up the ante when it comes to exfoliating, so try a product that combines both chemical and manual exfoliators, such as Philosophy the Microdelivery Peel (Sephora, $65). |
Protect and defendOnce again, prevention is a key to anti-aging and the sun is one of the biggest skin aging offenders. Active moms are usually in the sun with their kids (soccer mom anyone?) so an SPF of 30 or higher is a must. A bonus is to find a sunscreen that also contains antioxidants such as green tea to further fight free-radicals, another age offender. Try Alba Hawaiian Natural Sunblock With Green Tea, SPF 45, (Drugstore.com, $10). Other must haves are sunglasses and hats to give us another level of defense! |
Freeze wrinklesBelieve or not, treatments such as Botox and Dysport are great for moms on the go, because they actually stop the muscle action that causes the crevices in our face. They also eliminate the time and money spent on additional products or makeup. If you don’t have the budget or simply don’t want to “go under the needle” try a “wrinkle freezing” product such as Freeze 24-7 Instant Targeted Wrinkle Treatment (Freeze247.com, $65). These types of products contain Topical Muscle Relaxers and temporarily diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and laugh lines. |
