Beauty gift shopping: Hints for finding great deals

With the busiest shopping days of the year right around the corner, knowing how to score great deals on beauty gifts is a top priority. Check out our top hints for finding this season’s hottest beauty deals on sexy skin care, hair care, makeup must-haves and more.

Use online coupons

The Internet is your oyster. Check out the many promo and coupon sites offering deep discounts (and even free samples) on your favorite beauty brands and products. Many of these sites have searchable categories such as “health” and/or “beauty” to offer some gift-giving guidance, while others devote a section solely to savings on gifts.

Subscribe to daily deal sites

Similar to coupon and promo sites, daily deal sites offer huge markdowns on everything from deep-tissue massages to Brazilian blowouts. Sign up for sites like this by inputting your email; you’ll receive a targeted deal (or two or three) delivered directly to your inbox every morning.

Visit flash sale sites

“Most flash sale sites have a calendar of what’s upcoming for the week,” says Melissa Liebling-Goldberg, editorial director of Gilt.com. If you see a sale you like, add it to your calendar (or use the “add to calendar” button on the flash sale site) to set yourself a reminder. You can even use Facebook to get ahead of the pack, notes Liebling-Goldberg. Many sites now offer fans a sneak peek of their sales on Facebook before the sales actually go live. Use this time to strategize about what you want to buy and scout out reviews of products you might like.

Shop designer discount stores

Shop off-price retailers such as HomeGoods and T.J.Maxx to snag major discounts on luxury items. These types of stores carry many of the brands you know and love, plus hard-to-find beauty and skin care products from around the world, says Sonya Cosentini, style expert for Marshalls and T.J.Maxx. With more than 10,000 new items arriving in stores each week, you always have a fresh selection from which to choose.

Amp up your social media game

You’re probably on Facebook and Twitter most of the time anyway, so use it to your advantage: Follow your favorite beauty brands on Twitter and fan them on Facebook. Companies sometimes tweet exclusive promo codes or post them on Facebook.
