Soft skin tricks for the whole year

Soft skin never goes out of season. Whether you’re baring it all in a barely-there bikini or covering it all up in sexy skinny jeans and a sweater, your skin can be soft all year long with these easy tricks.

Hydrate

Beauty starts from within — and that goes for your skin, too. Experts have long touted the importance of drinking water for all kinds of health and beauty benefits, including soft, glowing skin — so drink to your health and your skin. As a good rule of thumb, drink half as many ounces of water per day than pounds you weigh. (For example, a 130-pound woman should aim to down 65 ounces of water throughout the day.) Try to have a glass of water before every meal and with every snack.

Nix the steamy shower

Who doesn’t love a hot shower? Your skin. Hot water can dry it out big time, leaving it ashy and flaky. You don’t have to suffer through an ice-cold shower for the sake of your skin; simply turn the knob a bit more toward that lonely blue C on your showerhead. Your skin will thank you.

Moisturize

Whether you use a silky oil or a rich body lotion, daily moisturizing is a must for super-soft skin. To make the most of your moisturizer, apply it immediately after you get out of the shower or bath. Don’t towel off too much. Your lotion or body oil will lock in that post-shower moisture for a smooth and sleek look all day long.

Exfoliate

Moisturizer is much more effective when you exfoliate to slough off dead skin cells before you apply it. Exfoliate your skin in the shower with a sugar or salt scrub, working the product gently into the skin in a circular motion. Aim to exfoliate about two times a week. Be extra gentle when exfoliating the face and neck. To slough dry skin off lips, rub them gently with a warm, wet washcloth, then apply a moisturizing lip balm.

Don’t skimp on shaving cream/gel

Shaving dry skin can lead to disaster. Don’t underestimate the power of a good lather of shaving cream or gel, which creates a smooth barrier between your skin and the razor.

Pamper hands and feet

Hands and feet bear the brunt of the dry-skin effect, so give them some extra attention. For super-soft hands and feet, apply a layer of petroleum jelly before bed, then cover up with socks and cotton gloves. In the morning, you’ll wake to pampered peds and happy hands.
