Weekends are definitely considered “down time” for moms. It’s the time to just relax and have fun with the kids, but it is still possible to look chic while doing that! Here are five ways to look relaxed but fabulous on the weekends.
My weekends go a little something like this:
- 7 a.m. Wake up
- 8 a.m. Breakfast time
- 9 a.m. Baseball practice for my 4-year-old and 5-year-old
- 10 a.m. Baseball game for my 6-year-old and 7-year-old
- 12 p.m. Lunch
- 1 p.m. (and on) Yard work, play time, movie watching, shopping, grocery shopping, family visits, etc.
To put it lightly, my weekends are absolutely, positively my “down time.” It’s my time to relax with the boys and just “be.” I don’t have to be attached to my iPhone, my laptop or my video camera. I can just be “mom” and enjoy two full days of mommytime, which for me, is the best time in the world. There’s nothing pressing on weekends, that is… except if it has to do with my guys.
Now that being said, even though it’s “down time,” I still like to look good!
I love being able to dress down, but still look chic. It’s one of those things that many moms don’t think is possible to do. I assure you, it’s possible to do and not difficult (at all). It’s fun for me to share and dish with other moms about easy ways to accomplish a fashionable weekend look.

Here are 5 ways to look chic on the weekends:
Accessories
Oh, mama, sometimes it’s just as easy as adding accessories! I’m a big fan of tossing on a straw fedora and aviators during the weekends. I’m not kidding when I say this, it almost doesn’t matter what else you have on — it could be sweats or jeans or a sundress — a fedora and aviators makes anything look chic and cool and fashionable. It’s easy to do and works for ANY mama!
Tunic
I love a tunic because can easily dress it down for the weekend. I recommend pairing one with jean capris and a flat pair of espadrilles. Tunics are the chicest item to wear in the summer to the beach or to the pool or out with a fabulous pair of heels. Here’s a way to wear one for a relaxed day out with the kids!
Maxi dress
I wanted to find a dress to share that could be worn on the weekends, and I’m telling you maxi dresses are the way to go! Maxi dresses can easily be worn on the weekends with a pair of flip flops. There’s no need to add jewelry or heels, just toss on the comfy shoes and go. What I love about a maxi is that any woman of any size or shape can pull one off, and they’re ultra-comfy!
Layering tanks and leggings
If you see me at my sons’ baseball games, this is usually my outfit. I love cropped leggings and wearing them with long, layered tank tops. It’s an easy look, but really is a fun and chic way to be relaxed. I usually just toss on flip flops, but you can go with any flat you want.
Summer scarves
Oh, yes! A fabulous add-on to any outfit that amps up the chic factor! Right now I recommend looking for three different kinds of summer scarves: 1) Tangerine scarf 2) Polka dot scarf 3) Paisley printed scarf. I add summer scarves to all my outfits when I can; it’s so easy to do and really makes a big difference!
