Rock the cape

Fall fashion

It’s time to channel your inner superhero, and rock a cape! This trend appeared on the runways of Derek Lam and Tibi, and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s so versatile, chic and effortlessly glamorous. Here’s how to style this must-have item.
The best part about a cape is that it looks good on everybody and can cover up any mid-section problem areas. But shopping for one can be a bit tricky if you’re not wearing the appropriate clothing underneath as you try it on. So here are a few tips:

Avoid anything bulky underneath — sweaters, sweatshirts or a crazy amount of layers. Bulky items will add too much weight and heaviness to your silhouette. It’s best to try a thin sweater up-top and a streamline pant on the bottom, like a straight-leg trouser.

For the office

A cape is so easy to dress up for the office. Have an important client meeting? Wear a bold cape over a classic sweater, a pair of slim black trousers and a pointy shoe that will elongate your body, and you’ll be set to impress!

Ellen Tracy belted cape coat $200, Sass & Bide torn-part sweater $220, Dorothy Perkins Naples straight leg trouser $35, Aldo Frited heels $80, Zara shopper $30

For the weekend

There’s nothing cozier than wrapping yourself in a cape with a cute blouse, jeans and riding boots for those lazy Saturdays.

Ellen Tracy belted cape coat $200, J. Crew New Boy polka-dot shirt $88, Mango super slim jeans $40, Seychelles Slap On The Wrist boots $110, Windsor gold metal aviators $9
