Hard as nails

Wouldn’t it be nice to have gloriously long nails that never ever chip or peel? Although we can’t all have super-human nails, there are a few things that can be done to achieve strong, healthy nails for life.

Our nails are exposed to all types of elements that weaken them and make them snap far too easily. But if you take some time and the following steps, you can have strong nails that are less prone to breakage.

File often

Nails are like hair, in a way. You know how your hairdresser always nags you about how you have to trim your hair if you want it to grow out strong? The same applies to nails. If you let them grow for too long they will become thin and snap easily. But if you file them down a touch once a week or so, though it might take longer for them to grow out, they will ultimately last far longer. A nail file is preferable to cutters and should be swept across the nail in one direction rather than back and forth. If you find that it is taking off too much or your nails are winding up jagged, you may want to consider a softer file. The little extra time it takes is worth the gentleness, and your nails will grow more evenly because of it.

Use the right polish

Nail polishes may seem as though they’re making your nails stronger as they add an extra layer. But the corrosive remover needed to take the polish off also removes natural oils and leaves your nails brittle and more prone to breakage. Instead, use something along the lines of Sally Hansen®’s Diamond Strength Instant Nail Hardener, which goes on like a polish but also strengthens your nails. And because it’s clear, you can let it come off naturally.

There are also some excellent strengthening creams that can be smoothed onto your nails. Sally Hansen®’s Nailgrowth Miracle Serum is infused with nutrients that are great for softening your cuticles and helping your nails grow long and strong.

Include your hands

But don’t let your nails stand alone in their beauty! Keep your hands moisturized and smelling great with Bath and Body Works® Chapped Hands Remedy or Shea Cashmere & Silk Hand Cream.

As with any beauty regime, the most important element is that you stick with the routine. Only by filing your nails regularly and applying strengthing creams and polishes will you begin to see lasting effects. If you stick with it, you are sure to achieve stronger and longer nails in just a few weeks!
