Miley Cyrus’ parents, Billy Ray and Tish, are calling it quits after 19 years of marriage. Assuming the marriage is over due to Miley’s fame is wildly speculative, but raising kids in a non-celeb home can take a toll on couples. It’s not unrealistic to assume that when kids are famous, that tension is amped up. Here are a few couples who split up after their kids became famous.
Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus
TMZ is reporting that Tish Cyrus has filed for divorce from Miley Cyrus’ dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. Trouble in their marriage is not new: Billy Ray had an achy breaky change of heart three years ago when he filed for divorce, but then withdrew the petition to work on his marriage. So what’s the deal with these two? Is watching their daughter’s odd behavior and bad twerking getting the better of them? Perhaps it’s the rumors of Miley’s on-again, off-again engagement to Liam Hemsworth. As long as we’re speculating, we wonder if future headlines will reveal that one or both of the Cyrus parents is having a fling. Guess we’ll just have to stay tuned.

Michael and Dina Lohan
Lindsay Lohan already had several big movies like The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls under her belt by the time her parents’ divorce was finalized in 2007. So did her rising star kill her folks’ marriage? Nah. It probably had more to do with Michaels’ addictions and infidelities coupled with Dina’s thirst for the limelight and drama. Despite all of Lindsay’s poor choices in recent years, the demise of her dysfunctional parents’ relationship is likely not her fault.

This couple showcased the challenges of domestic life on their TLC show Jon and Kate Plus Eight. Eight referred to the eight children they have — sextuplets and twins. So did the pressure of being outnumbered get to these young parents? Did Kate let fame go to her head? Was it Jon’s alleged infidelity? Viewers of this show realize that a split between these two was a foregone conclusion. During their on-air sofa chats, Kate came across as controlling and would often talk down to Jon like he was a buffoon. Jon sat there with a look of quiet desperation on his face. We’ve seen this dynamic repeatedly in our own social circles, and it rarely bodes well for the longevity of a couple’s marriage.

Liberty Ross and Rupert Sanders
So it wasn’t their child that came between Liberty Ross and Rupert Sanders, but the childlike Kristen Stewart. Rumors and incriminating photos circulated of Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman director) and Kristen Stewart while Sanders was married and Stewart was in a long-term relationship with Twilight costar Robert Pattinson. The Sanders tried to reconcile after the scandal, but Liberty Ross filed for divorce in January 2013. Stewart and Pattinson’s relationship took a similar path: they too tried to reconcile, but perpetual break up/get back together stories plague them. Oh what a tangled web we weave when we sleep with the married director of the film we’re starring in.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
We had to throw this in as a joke. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez weren’t married and didn’t have any kids. But they both are kids. Does that count? These two love-chickadees (they’re not quite old enough to be birds) love each other, they love each other not. It wasn’t the fame of their children that tore them apart, but presumably their individual child fame. Or it could be that Justin has spent the last year acting like a spoiled, entitled brat?
