Natalie Getz recaps The Bachelorette: ABC looked very selfish

Like every week, Natalie Getz spends two hours of her Monday evening watching and judging the men and women on ABC’s hit show The Bachelorette. Here are her thoughts on the series’ most recent episode…

Of course, this episode starts off with Chris Harrison making the guys nervous, acting like they are switching the game up into some sort of intense situation. But no, he is just telling them that they have a first world problem and that they have to pack up and move to Atlantic City. Basically, everything you need to know about this episode is that every single one of these guys is a total d-bag and cries nonstop. Please slap me across the face if I ever cried about a guy who’s dating multiple women at the same time and decides he doesn’t want to be with me after one date. Well, that would never actually be a situation in my life, because I’m not a moron.

Desiree takes some sad guy out on a date and it looks extremely boring. They played around on some seemingly white trash fairgrounds and ate saltwater taffy. Every major city on a beach has a pier full of arcades and carnival rides. I avoid them at all costs. I can’t tell you how much fun I did not have watching this date. It’s super early on, yet Desiree makes it seem very dramatic that she is not giving up her flower, er, rose, to this man/emotional train wreck. Sonny gets into the limo and cries his sad little eyes out. The end. I can’t feel bad for a man, a grown man at that, who cries about being dumped on a reality TV show.

Natalie Getz on The Bachelor: I was there for the wrong reasons>>

This group date made me laugh and want to vomit at the same time. At this point, it’s clear that Kasey is falling for the guy directing the pageant talent shenanigans, and that Zack wants a record deal that he is never going to get. I still don’t know who got that group date rose, and I really don’t think I want to. All I know is that Ben did not get any attention from Desiree or the rose, so I’m a little sensitive.

They continue to make Ben look like a villain because they have no one else to pin that character on. I think it’s hilarious, because he is actually saying that he likes Desiree, that he wants to spend time with her, that he will break the rules to spend more time with her, and that he doesn’t care if the other guys hate him for that. I’ll say this again, if you’re really falling in love, you don’t care about the other people that your boyfriend/girlfriend are dating. All you care about is winning their heart and you will do anything to get that. Don’t let background music that the show picks influence your opinion on a perfectly nice human being.

Next we have James. And I have a very strong opinion about this date. Do I like James? Yes. Let me take that back, I only like him if he was being humorous about sitting in the penthouse by himself in a white robe, red wine, bubble bath, and chocolate covered strawberries. If he was being serious about that, then I don’t ever care to know him. If he was doing that to be funny? Then I like that guy.

Anyway, all I will say is that this date made ABC look very selfish. I’m very disappointed they went to a very tragic place and acted like heroes because they filmed it from an expensive helicopter ride, which is money that could’ve gone to the victims of Hurricane Sandy had they just taken a ferry ride. They film how horrible this place looked after a major natural disaster, yet didn’t do anything to help except give a nice old couple a free dinner. But it wasn’t just a free dinner, it was a dinner that was filmed for a major television network.

With all these shows out there that surprise victims with a gift of financial value to help them get back on their feet, it made me uncomfortable to see them disappoint this elderly couple and offer them a filmed dinner date to make themselves look like they were do-gooders. What did they actually do for them? They did nothing. The Red Cross restored their wedding album. Not ABC. The Red Cross. My question is, how can you go into a tragic setting and ask a couple to go on camera to talk about all their losses, all their heartache, their personal situations, and give them basically nothing? I’m literally so upset about this.

It’s so typical of Hollywood to go into a situation to try to make themselves look better, and come out the hero when they do absolutely nothing. I left Monday night feeling very sorry for this couple and every other person who is affected by situations that are in God’s hands, not ours. OK, I’ll stop ranting about that. But when I’m passionate about something it’s hard for me to hold it in. Back to the date. James tells Desiree he cheated on someone when he was like 8 years old. Desiree is very upset about this. But she still gives him a rose. Dumb.

The rose ceremony comes and all I see are a bunch of weird guys trying to be famous standing in front a very beautiful girl. They will never be famous, and statistically speaking, she will never be happy for the rest of her life with one of them. See you all here next week!
