Jeff Branson is a daytime veteran. He’s appeared on several soaps and racked up three Daytime Emmy nominations. With so much success, why’d he leave the genre? The actor told SheKnows the logic behind his decision.
Sunday, former The Young and the Restless star Jeff Branson attended the 40th Daytime Emmy Awards. Even though he’s no longer on the show, he scored a nomination for his performance as Ronan Malloy. The actor briefly spoke with SheKnows about why he left the soap opera genre.

“The fact is, I started on Broadway. I’ve done primetime, daytime, indies, features and I just want to keep getting out there. I want to keep experimenting. I want to tell other stories,” he explains. “Sometimes if you’re in one character’s skin too long it gets flat for the audience, it gets flat for you. I don’t want that.”

Branson definitely shakes it up. During the course of his career he’s appeared on three soaps: All My Children, Guiding Light and The Young and the Restless. He’s received a Daytime Emmy nod for his work on each show. His first nomination was for playing Jonathan Lavery on AMC, followed by a nod and win for portraying Shayne Lewis on GL.

This year, Branson went up against Billy Miller (The Young and the Restless), Bradford Anderson (General Hospital) and Scott Clifton (The Bold and the Beautiful) for Outstanding Supporting Actor. In a rare case, there was a tie and the award went to Clifton and Miller, who are also previous Emmy winners.
