BET Awards: Kanye West’s performances through the years

Kanye West is an enigma, or so he wants us to think. But the rapper is successful for a reason, and his music is why he is where he is today. See how Kanye has evolved over the years.

Kanye West bills himself as a celebrity who doesn’t need the media, but he has allowed himself to be caught on camera performing at least a few times in the past few years. The new daddy has come a long way since he released College Dropout almost 10 years ago.

Here are some of his most memorable performances:

“New God Flow” in 2012

West performed “New God Flow” live at the 2012 BET Music Awards. While he is known for his overly-produced music, he didn’t get to where he is without being a genuinely good rapper. West showed it at last year’s award show.

West also performed at the 2012 BET Music Awards along with Big Sean, 2 Chainz and Pusha T to open up the show.

“Power” in 2010

In 2010, West performed “Power” at the BET Music Awards. The song is from his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and has been used in numerous ads since then. Even if you don’t listen to his music, you probably know the song.

And, as a bonus, there was a rare unscripted moment from West during a BET Award ceremony.

During the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech when he was upset his friend Beyonce didn’t win the award. In 2012, Beyonce’s husband returned the favor. West and Jay-Z won an award for their collaboration on Watch the Throne, and during an acceptance speech, Jay-Z said “Excuse me, Kanye, I’m going to let you continue.”

The comment was similar to West’s interruption to Swift when he said, “Imma let you finish.”

In case you are wondering if West has a favorite performance of himself, we have a feeling every performance of himself is his favorite.

The rapper released his latest album Yeezus June 18.
