The royal baby isn’t due for another three weeks — or is it?
The world is waiting with bated breath for the arrival of the royal baby, said to be due in mid-July — but is the palace pulling a fast one?
Sources tell the Daily Mail that Prince William and Kate Middleton may actually be expecting their bundle of joy a full 10 days earlier than we think, and that the couple leaked the wrong due date to give themselves a little privacy á la Kim Kardashian.
It wouldn’t be the first time a royal mum-to-be has resorted to such subterfuge: Princess Diana reportedly fooled the press back in 1982 by announcing her due date was July 1, but William arrived 10 days earlier on June 21.
Babies, of course, come in their own time and pay little attention to any date set by doctors or parents, but Kate seems to appreciate the immediacy of her situation and skipped out on the wedding of good pals Thomas Van Straubenzee and Lady Melissa Percy at Alnwick Castle in Northumberland over the weekend, although princes William and Harry did attend.
Whenever the future heir to the throne is born, the palace has a plan in place to announce it. An easel framing a birth announcement will be placed in the courtyard of Buckingham Palace giving all the pertinent details, unless the baby is born between 10:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m., in which case the palace will issue an electronic press release, followed by the easel announcement at 9 a.m.

“We wanted to retain some of the theatre of the notice,” a palace spokesman told the Mail. “It is quite important to us that this is done properly and with the degree of dignity that the event demands. This is the birth of a child who will be in line to the throne. It is a rare occasion and it is nice to be able to do it with some historical precedence.”
“While it is a deeply personal and private event, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge realize this is a time of national celebration and that there will be vast interest in the baby. They realize many people will want to share in their happiness.”
