According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, someone in the United States is sexually assaulted every two minutes. And each year, there are about 207,754 victims of sexual assault. This is an act no one should ever have to face.
Shelters, medical aid & an outlet to speak
Victims of rape must live with the memories of their attack and can, in turn, be scarred for life. Sadly, many of these rape victims are sexually assaulted by people they know, which all too often leads to silence about the action and bottled-up emotions leading to fear for a lifetime.
Victims of rape and sexual assault should not have to live within themselves, especially after facing emotional and physical damage. That’s where organizations like Sheltering Wings come in.
Sheltering Wings is a nonprofit organization that lends a helping hand by providing emergency intake and care for victims of domestic abuse. From housing to security, counseling and legal services, Sheltering Wings provides critical aid immediately after someone has been abused. Sheltering Wings keeps them safe and checks physical health, then leads them through a mental coping process immediately after they’ve physically harmed. The organization is also a rape crisis center that provides free support to victims of sexual violence. That support includes a 24-hour crisis hotline, case management and therapy, among other services.
