Despite Alec Baldwin‘s Twitter rants, he is an important and beloved actor in Hollywood. But what would it take for him to give it all up? Maybe less than we think.
Alec Baldwin is a conundrum. He could be considered one of the most-loved actors in Hollywood, or at least one of the most adaptable. But his public persona has taken hit after hit in recent years.

The most recent controversy came about after a newspaper ran a story about his wife tweeting at James Gandolfini‘s funeral. Baldwin was not happy (to say the least) and let the journalist know it, via Twitter.
For the actor, it may have been enough to finally give up life in the spotlight. And with a new baby on the way, Baldwin seems to be reconsidering the life he is living.
“I have one dream in my life and that is that this daughter I’m having — she comes to me about seven or eight years from now, she has a friend, and she’s at her house and she says, ‘Daddy, Susie’s mom says you used to be on TV. Daddy, is that true?’ She has no knowledge of me as a public person,” Baldwin told Vanity Fair in a recent interview. “That would be heaven for me.”

The magazine asked him if that meant he wanted to quit acting.
“I’d love to if I could, yeah,” he responded. “That would be the greatest thing in the world.”
But that “greatest thing in the world” isn’t without its downsides, and there are reasons Baldwin hasn’t yet given up the acting bug.
“I would love to,” Baldwin said, “if I could find something else to do.”
With 30 Rock ending earlier this year, the actor could have had an easy out. But he continues to sign on for additional films. Baldwin can be seen this year in Woody Allen‘s Blue Jasmine, and he will star in Caught Stealing next year.
As for Twitter, Baldwin said he is definitely done. But he credits the decision more to James Gandolfini than his rant at the Daily Mail journalist.

“I went to Jimmy Gandolfini’s funeral, and when I was there I realized Jimmy Gandolfini didn’t have Twitter,” he explained. “Jimmy Gandolfini was so beloved as a person, and he was so admired as an actor and he didn’t give a f*** about social media.”
